By the grace of God, my wife and I (Millennials) have been lucky/blessed in the years we have been married; we just sold our current home for $253,500... we bought it 9yrs ago for $172,500 and now, between the sale, and some personal savings, we are moving into what will be our last home which is $410,000. None of this comes from 'generational wealth'... it's from literal years of hard work! We put in the work, started out in a older home that needed A LOT of work, did as much work ourselves as we could, had kids...why should anyone have to pay *more* for the hard work they have put in which is already taxed just to have a home and raise a family? I've worked 12 hours per day as a contractor for 30 years, and I have no pension! I've scratched and clawed along with some good decision making to buy my first home 25 years ago. 6 years ago I took out equity to buy a rental property. The government even controls how much rent I can charge on that despite skyrocketing costs. This is ridiculous! I don't have a pension. My residence, and my rental property are my pension, as I'm self employed. If my primary residence is taxed, I will be packing my bags and leaving this country. JT is the enemy! PP can't come in soon enough...my god! 😢

We cant take anymore taxes. Property taxes continue to go up already. Matter of fact; im on well and septic and Ottawa is imposing an increase to the "rain tax" on our properties for storm drains; which we dont have! Imagine your child, after growing up in the home and life you sacrificed to build for them, raised and supported with your over-taxed paycheck, paid to clothe, feed, comfort and educate them, now come back and say you have to pay a tax on that home in order to make it more fair for them.....I would sell that home, take my retirement savings and spend every penny on frivolity, leave whatever I had left to a charity and leave them with nothing. In the 60’s we moved into a house in Calgary, a show home, for $20000.00. Now that home is over $750000.00. Imagine how much the seniors would have to pay in taxes. Absolutely ridiculous.

I didn’t get my home until I was 42. Not everyone who belongs to a specific age group had an easy way. Generation squeeze. This so called generation is the one where many grew up in well off enough homes with parents who can assist them. Of course many do not fit in that group and it saddens me. But blame the elitists for allowing our economy and housing and renting issues. So tax them more. I should be retired but I’m still working paying my mortgage and trying to buy a new used car to replace a 23 year old car. I will have a pension but it’s not the same as working. Our homes require maintenance and renovations all of which cost a lot of money. Our property taxes are crazy enough. I’m so sick of the elites.

We already pay a tax. It's called "The Land Transfer Tax" Double if you live in Toronto. If we are paying a tax on the sale of the house, then we have to be able to "write off" mortgage interest payments and improvements to the house like a landlord does now.

As an Architect whose worked in several different countries, I have never seen a jurisdiction that makes it harder to get permits for building new homes than present day Ontario. The amount of paperwork and fees it involves is ludicrous. Developers of course, roll their costs onto the buyers. No wonder homes are so expensive here.

If you want to see average Canadians protesting in the streets, see what happens if you tax primary residences….

Studies ordered by the government serve only one of two purposes: 1) To delay or prevent putting in a policy popular with the electorate but undesirable to politicians and/or the political donor class. 2) To manufacture consent for a policy unpopular with the electorate but desirable to politicians and/or the political donor class.

This has to stop. We cannot handle any more taxes. Carbon Tax, Steaming Tax, Income Tax, Capitol Gains Tax. Our property taxes have increased due to out of control inflation as well. When does it end. We are all hurting. We are being punished for being successful and working hard. I should be farther ahead financially at this point in my life and this government has stolen this from us all. As my children become young adults, they have no chance of being successful out on their own. I am tired of this inadequately educated government thinking they have "more work to do" and they now "hear Canadians" Tone deaf for 9 years and it just keeps getting worse. They inherited a balanced budget from Stephen Harper and have driven this country to the brink of collapse. This will take decades to recover from and yet no Liberal can look around and see what they have done and honestly admit their lack of operating a proper government. I used to love this country. How about a trust fund tax instead - that's where if you were a trust fund kid you have to dissolve the trust fund by your 20th birthday of the CRA dissolves it for you and charges a 10% fee.

But they wouldn't be taking the money from people that have spent their whole lives saving to give it to younger voters. They'd be taking our money to waste bureaucracy, studies, consultants and debt interest payments!

That will be the last straw for many people living in Canada. Time is coming close to a different country.

I think this is a ridiculous tax grab and if they insist on taxing primary residences then we better be able to claim interest expenses as deductions from our taxes (retroactively) since the reason mortgage expenses on our taxes aren't tax deductible has always been justified because our primary residences were non taxable.
