Hello, your video is very helpful, thank you! Question for you: the tip you give about the auto-lock setting at ideally 5 minutes, well if I put the battery at the low power mode, then I cannot access the auto-lock setting. It stays blocked at 30 seconds. If I turn off the low power mode, then I can set the auto-lock at 5 minutes. But, if I reset the low power mode, then the auto-lock resets at 30 seconds automatically. So, what should I do?
@Slimothy
@Slimothy Жыл бұрын
To be honest I use low power mode less than 2 times a year. Last year I used it 0 times. I don’t think it’s very important. I recommend keeping low power mode off as much as possible unless it’s an emergency. But keeping your lock mode to 5 mins on regular days is the way to do it.

Hey! Great question. So, getting 2 alerts is completely normal. Do you think maybe you were getting alerts that the battery health (overall) of the battery was low? If you go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health you’ll see the Maximum capacity/battery health. Otherwise I’m not really sure how you could have gotten more than one alert 😂 how many did you used to get?

Thanks for these tips and your other informative videos. I have a question that I don't find much info on. How can I best prolong the *LIFE* of my battery. I know Apple has the new OPTIMIZE BATTERY CHARGING feature which limits max charging based on machine learning. But in the day to day, what is the best methodology for charing a phone so that you're not stressing the battery? I hear claims to only charge it when it hits 20%, load it up to 80%, and don't keep it charging while it is at 100%. Thoughts?
@Slimothy
@Slimothy 4 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking 40-60% at all times is the sweet spot. Unfortunately that’s nearly impossible. I let mine run down to around 30-40% and then I plug it in till it’s 100%. That usually happens between 1-8PM somewhere in there. Then from 8-midnight I use it as normal. Then overnight I plug it in and leave it plugged in overnight. My battery health is still 100% and I think this is a good way to do it. I turned off optimized charging. Not my thing. You can also get a smart outlet like I have. So overnight it turns off around 4AM once I know my phone is full. Then turns back on around 6 to make sure it’s topped off when I wake up. I’ll prolly make a video going over this soon.

Yeah it's hard to find good information on it. But just remember that batteries are consumables and they do degrade with time even if you take perfect care of them. You can always get Apple to replace just the battery for around 50-60 bucks in most cases. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But yeah that is a good video idea I'll try to make that soon!

I bought my iPhone 11 Pro in February and now my battery capacity is 91% I’m using the charger that came along with it which is the fast one I believe it harmed my iphone now it takes an hour and 30 mins to fully charge :( I followed all your tips in the video but I want to ask when should I charge my phone like should I wait until it’s less than 5%? I try to charge it once a day only is that bad? also I’m panicking bc I had my iPhone 7 for 3 years but this one is going down very fast in less than a year .
@Slimothy
@Slimothy 3 жыл бұрын
You’re probably just using this phone way more. It’s best to always keep the charge between 40-60%. But no one can feasibly do that so charge it whenever is convenient for you. I keep mine plugged in whenever I can just for convenience. Dropping below 20% and then charging up to 100 can cause strain on the battery so best not to do that everyday. I drop mine to 1-5% once a month to recalibrate it. That’s about it. Otherwise it’s usually above 40% for me.

Hey! Great question. I actually just filmed an updated battery tips video yesterday (it won’t be up for a few days though, editing takes a while!). In it I mentioned this, so basically, if you want to be “ideal”, you will charge your phone in between 40% and 60%. Obviously, this is a huge burden and not worth the benefits for basically anyone. The next best thing is to keep your phone between 30-80 or 20-80. This still is difficult a lot of times. But it is better. The worst is letting your battery go down to below 20% and then charging it back up to 100%. That puts a decent amount of stress on the battery. If you do it everyday, your phone’s battery will slowly degrade. For me, I keep my phone topped up throughout the day. It’s also not “ideal” to keep your phone at 100% as that is a high state of stress for the battery, but hey, I want my phone to work and have juice when I need it. So I plug in anytime I drop below 90% honestly. I use it while plugged in. And I try not to let mine drop below 20% very often. Maybe once a month I’ll drain to 2% and then charge up to 100% just to “re calibrate” a little. So yeah, moral of the story is keep it above 20% most of the time and you should be just fine. But you paid good money for your phone so use it how you like. Batteries can always be replaced! Hope this helped. 👍🏻

@Slimothy 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s ok to use while charging. No I don’t recommend charging on Low Power mode (no point). If you’re at 96% already chances are you cycle the battery (aka charge it) a lot. That could be for many reasons. Using it a lot. Intensive apps like Snapchat. Living in a hot environment etc. it happens. Batteries degrade. The best thing to do is just take care of the phone (don’t leave it in direct sunlight etc) but also use it how u want. You spent a lot of money on that phone. Use it how you want. Batteries will always degrade and can always be replaced :)

@Slimothy
@Slimothy 4 жыл бұрын
Sittie Ayna hey! That’s a great question. So from 0-80% your phone actually charges very quickly. This is completely normal. Once it hits 80% though, it “trickle charges” and charges slower from 80% to 100%. This puts less stress on the battery and helps increase the longevity of it. If you notice it get extremely slow sometimes it’s just a software glitch and can be fixed by just rebooting the phone (which I recommend doing around once a week). But yeah, from 80 to 100% is usually much slower.

Hey! Don’t worry about it. The only way to make it drop less would be to use your phone less, which defeats the purpose! If you’re in a hot environment, it’ll degrade faster. But you can always have Apple put in a new battery once it hits around 80%. Don’t worry about it! All batteries degrade over time.

@Slimothy
@Slimothy 4 жыл бұрын
Mahnoor Saleem it honestly just depends how much you’re charging your phone and how hot it’s getting. If you have a case on, plus PUBG, plus charging sometimes, it’ll wear it down. I used to play a lot of games like PUBG a few years ago and it would hurt my battery. Because you’re charging your phone an extra 1-2 times per day. But if that’s how you use your phone, just enjoy the phone and don’t worry about the battery until it starts to bother you (like if it can’t hold a charge)

Hi there. I have my iphone 11. I charged my phone when it hit the 40% mark up to 85%. Actually my iphone is a week old today. Anyway, I have read that you must at least reboot the iphone once a week, and then I give it a try. So i rebooted it after a minute or two, when I turned it On, my battery is on a 90% mark not 85. When I go to settings>battery you can see the percentage on your latest “last charged”. Im so confused. Please enlighthen me. Hoping it is not bad for the phone and the battery. Hope you respond. Thanks 😀

@Slimothy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! So that's great that you're doing that for your battery. 40-60 is the sweetspot but 30-80 is just fine. Here's the thing, if that annoys you, don't bother. It's more important to enjoy the phone than to worry about a disposable battery. Eventually, it will degrade no matter what you do and you'll need to have it replaced at Apple (or a certified 3d party but I recommend Apple), or just grab a new iPhone. Now, the reason your battery jumps so much is because every time you reboot it re-calibrates itself to get the battery percentage and battery health set properly. Once a month, you should drain the battery down to 2-5% or so, and then charge up to 100% as well. This will also calibrate the battery too and it's good to do, like I said, once a month or so. I do it 1-2 times per month as well and I reboot about once a week and never had any major battery issues :) Hopefully this helps, check out the video we posted a few days ago. The Thumbnail looks just like this video's, but it has updated tips for 2020. The title says it's for iPhone 12 but the tips work on all iPhones except the 5G tips. Cheers!

Yeah thanks man 😊😊. One more question, I charge my phone 30-95 or 40-85 if I had a chance to monitor my iphone. Usually, during weekdays(when Im off to work everyday), when it hit 25%, I charged it all the way up to 100%. Its that okay? Like most of the times from 25% to 100%? Is it okay to charge it twice a day like 25 to 85 and 40 to 85?
@Slimothy
@Slimothy 3 жыл бұрын
Yep that’s okay. I keep mine topped off throughout the day. If mine goes down to 90 or 60 or 75 or anything I plug it in. I sometimes keep mine plugged in most of the day. It doesn’t matter too much. It’s best not to, but I do it because I upgrade my phone once a year or once every 2 years so my battery doesn’t matter as much. But I’m still on 90% battery health after 1 year which is what Apple expects. So just keep using it how you like

@Slimothy
@Slimothy 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, I wouldn’t keep it on all the time. It slows the performance of the phone and stuff. I mean, it won’t hurt your phone at all. But there’s no real point to it except if your battery is so bad. And at that point it’s probably best to just replace the battery. But yeah if you know the phone will be away from a power outlet for a long time and you won’t be able to charge and you’re anticipating this, sure why not keep it on. But normally everyday when you’re near chargers? Probably not worth it (to me at least). Hope this helps!

Jessiebroadbridge X ah, that’s not too bad. Maybe once it gets to around 90% then you could start to think about how to either keep it there or replace, but Apple says hitting 80% after 2 years is normal. So yours is a relatively new phone, it could still be calibrating. Give it maybe 2 more months and see what the % is. That’s an expensive phone, I say use it how you want and don’t worry too much about the battery health until it gets near 85-90%. Then you can always replace the battery if it bothers you, and be right back up at 100%!
