The allen key should have been put at the bottom of the handle. gunk can get into the slot where the allen key goes.

The knife relies in one Allen Wrench. Think that Slot Screws would have been a better choice in design. So the handle can be opened with a coin, or any other tool that fits the need.

First thing I would do is cut slots, for a regular screwdriver on the male side screws ... because when you want that stuff inside ... the Allen key WILL be lost. :)

You were definitely right there, Jeff: When I saw the diagrams, I thought those arrow heads would be similar to the thin sheet metal card-sized survival 'kits,' and be hardly usable. Those arrow heads would be quite stout in a makeshift arrow or atlatl type spear!
@zebanon5
@zebanon5 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they'd be a lot more fitting for an atlatl. Very good thought. I would maybe have one like that, and make some much flatter ones for the other socket. You could maybe fit 4 in there without them being toooo thin.
@youtubevoice1050
@youtubevoice1050 5 жыл бұрын
On the contrary. These arrow heads are way too thick. Not only will you struggle getting them into a shaft, they aren't sharp on the sides either. Everyone who hunts with bows will tell you that you need sharp arrow heads, not just a sharp tip, or else they won't properly kill. And since they have no barbs these aren't good for fishing either.
@MikeBaxterABC
@MikeBaxterABC 5 жыл бұрын
@@youtubevoice1050 I agree .. Actually harvesting game with a home made bow, and arrow, is almost impossible for someone who does not have a lot of experience ... just a waste of calories in an emergency situation ... I see those little arrow heads useful as a short spear to spike frogs or maybe fish in shallow water (spike them to the bottom and hold) ... while it MAY be possible to get a lucky hit on a stupid squirrel with home made arrow ... just searching to find one lost arrow, would use more calories than a squirrel has in it.
@youtubevoice1050
@youtubevoice1050 5 жыл бұрын
@Mike Baxter. Definitely. Though even for fishing in shallow water carving a fishing spear (splitting the tip of a staff into four spikes) would be better.

You could probably use the eyelet on the handle to make a lanyard from some 65lb test braided fishing line. Not only will you have as much fishing line as you want, it will also be strong enough to affix your arrow heads to your homemade shaft. You'd have to check the size of the eyelets on the hooks, but even if 65lb braided line is too big you can go with something a little lighter. As long as you stay with braided line, it should work well with the arrow heads also

Since the Allen key is already magnetized by the magnet holding it, I think it would make a fine added use to mark its balance point so you could dangle it from a string as a makeshift compass

I prefer hardware that has either Phillips head or flat head screws. I usually have my belt knife and a Leatherman or SAK, so if I need to take the scales off my belt knife I like to be able to use my multitool instead of having to carry a separate tool just for the purpose of removing scales. I switched out the hardware (and scales) on my BK2 so they now have Phillips head stainless screws instead of the stock carbon ones.
@azraelf.6287
@azraelf.6287 5 жыл бұрын
I would epoxy the female side of the screws to the scale. Maybe even epoxy that entire scale to the blade. You only have one wrench, and that will prevent the screws from just spinning rather than loosening.

@DirkDaJerk
@DirkDaJerk 5 жыл бұрын
It is comical, but to hang a deer you'll use hooks that are easily a pound or pound and a half per hook and about 6-8" long. I can go for the vines holding it, depending on the type of Vine, but I'm sorry to say, those hooks will probably not hold a 20lb beaver let alone a 130+ lb deer

I like the whole thing the arrow heads remind me a little of the armour piercing tips the English used in battles with their longbows. Shame there was no fishing line and a few little snap on sinkers ,clever shame we can not get stuff like this here in Australia. Guess i will have to make my own. Though not having a CNC machine or water jet cutter will be a challenge hmmm maybe i ought to rethink that one . Great channel keep these great ideas coming mate :-)

I have always thought a survival knife should have some kind of miniature water purification gizmo. Fishing line, hooks, waterproof matches or a ferro rod, and a compass. Maybe a little weed too. A small toking pipe built into the handle?

Cool knife. Great review as always 👍. I would suggest that if you do drop some of the metal hardware, and don’t see them or they get covered by snow or leaves ect, that you could use the magnet or scale with magnet to maybe retrieve the metal hardware. Just an idea 😎. Thanks for the excellent review 👍

Pretty kool design I kinda want one. I think the lack of fishing line is bc they probably figure you would have paracord on you. Personally I think the so called vault should be a bit bigger and be on the other handle scale. Also as said by others, why not ditch the allan and go with slotted screws so you can use a coin or something similar? I'd be pretty pissed if I managed to lose the allan and sound up needed the items inside

if those arrowheads were more barbed instead of just perfectly triangular (I forget the proper term for that) then they could serve double duty as tethered harpoons. also, you should be able to, by how that hook cavity looks, to throw in a couple of size 10-12 Carlisle hooks to catch small panfish to use as bait on the other bigger kahle/circle-looking hooks the knife came with, so.

I think for this purpose it would have been better if it was a Paracord wrapped knife, possibly with thin scale liners to hold the heads in. Then the Paracord can be used with the arrowheads.

The bow drill divot should be on the exterior of the scales. This would leave more room inside for another little compartment. I also agree that slotted screws would have been better. By the way, what steel is the knife? It looks pretty darn thick for a knife blade, but the kind of steel will have a lot to do with defining its characteristics.

I feel like the arrowhead shape and thickness could be improved. A thinner broadhead style would also probably perform better aerodynamically on an improvised arrow or spear. Make them 1/3 the thickness w/ a larger profile and you could get 3 into the same area.
