Marbles knives have a history that goes back to the late 1800s when Webster Marbles started the company in the upper peninsula of Michigan in Gladstone. The orginal "Kabar" Mark 2 knife famous from WWII is actually a Marbles design as well that was contracted out to Kabar, Ontario and other companies instead of Marbles due to cost and production capacity at that time. Looking at this $30 version just makes my heart sink when I think about the originals which sell for several hundred dollars today. From 1997 to about 2003 Marbles had a bit of a renaissance in Gladstone until the knife section of the company was sold off and production went to Pakistan and China. I have a few versions of this same knife from 2003 when it was assembled in Gladstone, MI. Tang stamped for USA production. The parts at that time were made by for Marbles by Queen Cutlery and the whole production of this and other folders at the time was contracted by a Marbles distributor named David Shirley (passed away) near East Lansing, Michigan. I used to go to his home to purchase Marbles knives from 1999-2003. Shortly after several series of USA folders were produced of excellent quality, production was sold off and everything went down hill, along with Schrade and other companies who went out of U.S. business around the same time.

This is one of the best "novelty" knives I habe ever seen and I plan on getting one just because of how golden this piece is for overcompensation jokes.

It's more than a 'novelty' knife...it's a modern copy of a very functional design. It's also well enough made to actually use it for its intended purpose.

I ordered a marbles fixed blade knife a few years ago. Handle💯 steel💯. Everything was sturdy and the sheathe was 💯. But the grind was so far off from the center it looks like someone was grinding it by hand and then forgot to flip it, shot it on the other side for 30 seconds and just packaged it lol. Still a great knife. I'm sure I could have gotten another if I called the company.

These are nice. Hubby has a Game Getter model from Marbles for collectability and a cobra for banging around in the woods. I have seen him use it as an impromptu machete. If you get one to use, make sure it locks open! Cheaper ones (Bone Collector brand comes to mind) will not and will close if you swing them. That is a good way to lose a finger.

Best? Well, he "reviews" his impressions of their looks and quickly tests their how they open and close. He almost never reviews how they cut. And, let's face it, that's what a knife is really for. So these reviews really mean nothing at all.

I have one with different handle scales (MR416). These are very well made knives, inexpensive, with low grade stainless (440A, I believe). Takes a good edge, but you'll be sharpening it fairly often. That said, it's relatively lightweight for a full size knife, and a good EDC choice if you find a good pouch for it. I also have the folding bowie, but it's strictly a showpiece. Not really a practical design.
