🚩 After his debacle at the Gates of Trajan, Basil has come into his own over the years. He defended Constantinople and had successfully managed the civil war in Anatolia, the Fatimid invasion in the east, and had made inroads into Bulgaria as well.
🚩 I work with History Rhymes / @historyrhymes1701 on this series and am very happy with how it's shaping up. We have 5 episodes completed and another 2 in the making. The 7 episodes in total will document the fascinating rule of Basil II and cover some of the key battles during his reign.

Basil II, certainly received a very rigorous and exhaustive training in the art of war, during his early years as emperor experiencing victory and defeat in equal measure. Learning the value of speed and surprise, methodical conquest and having a formidable savage force of dedicated shock troops to help win his future victories that would gain him the title of Bulgar Slayer.

He lost at Sredec, at Trajan gates and at Pernik twice. Krakra a Bulgarian warrior from Pernik twice defeated Basil in 1004 and 1016 when Basil besieged the city and Basil threw everything at him and after realising he couldn't beat Krakra he tried to diplomatically win his heart by promising rich gifts and nice treatment to all Bulgars which Krakra declined.

@@alejandrokaplan1984 Basil left very strong and experienced army after him this army just disbanded because the ruling class decided that no enemy left to deal with. Also the imperial treasure was full. Don't forget also In Egypt and Levantine lands were sizable Christian population. This was only on situation if basills successor would be worthy of Imperial regalia. Also I think basil made one mistake when occupied Georgian lands and conquered Armenia he made Georgians his enemies when he had possibility to have us allies and eliminating Armenians as state which would be useful as buffer it had showed up in future when Seljuk Turks appeared.
