No mention of how Caesar tripped and fell face first in the water disembarking from his landing boat? Rather than let his troops think it was a bad omen he springs back up with a fistful of mud exclaiming "Africa you are in my grasp!"

Mutinies, often, didn't happen out of spite but as a way to pressure your superiors to cede to your demands. Even though his legionaries mutinied against him, they still deeply respected and revered him. It was a move to ensure that Caesar had not forgotten their welfare after having spent all the time in Egypt. Caesar sensed this and chastised his legionaries for abandoning him during his time of need when he didn't abandon them during theirs. It did the trick. Out of shame, they willingly volunteered to fight and die for him for another day

Caesar turned a republic into an empire. From the man himself: "So where does Lucas stand in this political polemic? "I'm more on the liberal side of things," he says. "I grew up in San Francisco in the '60s, and my positions are sort of shaped by that ... If you look back 30 years ago, there were certain issues with the Kennedys, with Richard Nixon, that focused my interest." Lucas' own geopolitics can sound pretty bleak: "All democracies turn into dictatorships-but not by coup. The people give their democracy to a dictator, whether it's Julius Caesar or Napoleon or Adolf Hitler. Ultimately, the general population goes along with the idea ... What kinds of things push people and institutions into this direction?"" Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palpatine#cite_note-72

Caesar is one mentally strong general! To survive with he's army virtually intact after being surrounded by a larger force of mainly mounted skirmishers is pretty astonishing! Equivalent engagements against mounted archers like the Mongols/ Turks/ Arabs would usually end in defeat for the surrounded army.

Caesar is an extraordinary leader of men! Definitely one of the best Generals throughout history, very quick to make decisions, to suit the situuation at the moment, and not afraid to lead his men in battle,,, which is very rare indeed. His men greatly respected this, and many reasoned, if our general is not afraid to lead us in battle,, how much danger can their be?

While Caesar was incredibly brilliant in extricating his army from deadly situations, I could also argue that it was Caesars hubris and lack of preparation which put his men in that situation in the first place. I'm not trying to downplay Caesars greatness as a commander I'm simply saying that clearly his genius and daring was a double edged sword at the same time.

Hannibal was defeated by Roman General Skipio on the plains of North Africa, about a seventy years earlier.Hannibal was not the great general , often portrayed to be. Incredibally stupid to take warm flatland elephants over the Alps, lost most of the elephants, and thousands of his men. Had some definite early victories over the ill trained, and unsuspecting Romans, but after pillaging the Italian countryside of food for his army, and losing many of his soldiers in battle, he wandered aimlesly through the Italian peninsula trying to recruit another army , and provisions, which the Romans had already confiscated and hid from him. He lost another battle with Roman legions in Spain , before heading back to Africa, greatly weakened and disheartened.

Brains can't think since to think you need to be free to think while brains are physical ergo slaves to physics. Slaves can't be free. It's atheist fiction that the brain is the mind. The spirit is the thinker. Only a metaphysical thing can be free from physics. And this proves that there is at least one God, for our being spirits having begun, means our origin is spiritual and very powerful. This also proves that the death of the brain is not the death of the mind. Atheists however, confuse correlation with causation akin to saying that the Nintendo 64 controller is the player just because Mario moves when the controller moves, when the actual player is outside of the system.

“Brains can't think since to think you need to be free to think while brains are physical ergo slaves to physics. Slaves can't be free.” Nonsensical Deepak Chopra-like platitude. “It's atheist fiction that the brain is the mind.” Ah, so the neuro-science experiments in which stimulations of certain parts of the brain enhance or impair certain skills are all fiction? Part of a vast conspiracy by “evolutionists” to push atheism? All the well documented and peer reviewed studies on vast personality changes post brain trauma … fake news? “The spirit is the thinker.” Prove empirically that there’s such a thing as a spirit. No, descriptions of near death experiences don’t count. Bad acid trips have caused similar experiences. Ghost Hunters or similar sources don’t count as evidence either. I need things that will stand up to the scrutiny of the scientific method. “Only a metaphysical thing can be free from physics.” A not so subtle attempt at special pleading. “And this proves that there is at least one God,” In other for your conclusion to be valid, your premises have to be demonstrably true. They’re not. “for our being spirits having begun, means our origin is spiritual and very powerful.” More Deepak Chopra-like woo. “This also proves that the death of the brain is not the death of the mind.” You still need to prove your prior premises before you’re allowed to draw any conclusions, booboo. “ Atheists however, confuse correlation with causation” Textbook psychological projection. Although most human beings are prone to false pattern recognition, atheists (who are atheists because they’ve applied the scientific method to the god question) overall demonstrably tend to behave in more rational manner. “akin to saying that the Nintendo 64 controller is the player just because Mario moves when the controller moves, when the actual player is outside of the system.” Faulty generalization, and straw man.

@Lord Voldemort Titus Labienus is rated to be one of Rome's greatest generals in the 1st century. What are you talking about? How much more competent Surena really was? PS: I was speaking about the case of Julius Caesar actually proceeding with his Parthian campaign in 44 B.C.E. Surena had died 9 years before that date...
@EpaminondastheGreat
@EpaminondastheGreat 4 жыл бұрын
@Lord Voldemort Rlax Voldy. Labienus's achievements in the conflicts he fought. I did not compare him to Surena, you just seem to greatly underestimate a very skilled commander who, particularly in the Civil War succeeded to raise entire legions out of scratch and lead them to battle with great efficiency. Anyway, you are wrong anyway since Surena died 9 years before Caesar's planned invasion and thus, they would have never faced each other in battle...We shall speak in detail about this at the Villain Pub...
@EpaminondastheGreat
@EpaminondastheGreat 4 жыл бұрын
@Lord Voldemort Well, here again you are wrong again. Labienus did not die at Ruspina, it is not even known if he was even wounded in that instance with the soldier. Labienus survived the African campaign and went on to fight on Caesar in Hispania and eventually dying at the battle of Munda in 45 B.C.E. I insist I did not compare the two, I just said that you underestimate Labienus which you did, at least in the previous comments of yours. Anyway, relax Voldy...
@EpaminondastheGreat
@EpaminondastheGreat 4 жыл бұрын
@Lord Voldemort You know, I didn't even use the relax part for that reason. It's actually a reference from HISHE and the Villain Pub...Don't get so mad about this Voldy...Btw, the battle of Ruspina is considered a tactical victory for Labienus...He was not defeated...

I’m surprised they didn’t charge in. They must have been concerned that skirmisher cavalry wouldn’t charge hard enough to break their line, even completely surrounded.

Nice video, man. It is unfortunate to see you skipping the events and battles of Egypt and Asia minor. By the way when you released your last 'Hannibal' video I asked if you would cover what Hannibal did after annihilating 50k+ Romans and you said yes (like what exactly did Hannibal do each year after this battle and his defeat in Zama). You put that series on hold or u never planned to do anything between those two battles? Thank you for making history fun to the general public :)
