@@wulfheort8021 you are literally the people on this planet that make it worse, bro I simple said “You know sometimes you forget how perfect this show got at its peak” after watching one the greatest scenes in TV history, the show in general, when it showed its peak, was perfect, is that comment much easier for you to understand?
@wulfheort8021
@wulfheort8021 Жыл бұрын
@@Alex-bi1cl I think you are the one here who has trouble with understanding. You made it look like you are calling this battle a part of the show's peak. I know that someone might mean something different than how what they say comes across and that's why I used the word IF at the very beginning of my sentence. Have you perhaps forgotten what that word means? And no, this show was most definitely not "perfect" at its peak. It had great dialogue and clever writing, but to call it perfect is an exaggeration. And one last thing, this battle was horrible trash. Game of Thrones is set in a medieval setting, that means that medieval tactics and strategies apply and they completely butchered that in the battle. Just some more Hollywood hack and slash chaos. People have dumbed down so much these days that they are fully pleased and awe-taken by some visuals regardless of the logical consistency or accuracy of what is portrayed.

This scene feels like such a throwback to season 3 finale, where the liberated people raised up Dany forming a circle of raised hands around her. Here Jon rises through the bodies , gasping for air, whilist the camera pans up revealing a similar circular pattern . It feels intended that the scenes share this aesthetic similarity. In a sense both these moments defined Jon and Dany, but the show still makes clear the different kind of obstacles, shaped them to be the leaders they became.

Also how the people of slaves of Slavers bay were Dany’s people and how the Wildlings were Jon’s people. Both didn’t intend to stay but they liberated them after living among them and becoming one of them. Jon became their brother and Danny their mother.

Director Miguel Sapochnik and Kit Harrington did a deep dive on how the trampling scene was a metaphor for the rebirth of Jon. Jon by the time of the battle is a man beaten down by circumstance. His increasingly agitated interactions with the people closest to him is reflective of his inner despondence and self-doubt. This is a man betrayed by his own Brothers. A man who's lost faith.That famous one take of Jon zig zagging through the field dodging arrows and horses is the height of his resignation to fate. That's the point where he's on auto pilot with a singular purpose to kill or die. Probably the best way to remain alive in a pitched battle, when you've already accepted you're as good as dead. But as the crush starts and he gets buried under a mass of humanity, he's finally forced to slow down. There's a shot of his face looking almost blissful, like he's finally at peace with the end. But in this process of letting go he also regains the humanity he had lost after being betrayed. From under that stampede he finds a new desire to live stronger than before, and as he comes up gasping for air, he emerges a man reborn. THIS, is the real Resurrection of Jon Snow. Or as Sapochnick calls it, 'the vaginal birthing shot' lol. It's a parable for the reawakening of The North. The turning point. Jon being raised above the stampede mirrors another similar turning point moment. To S3 finale "Mhysa" where Dany is held aloft the human tide, except the circumstance is turned over its head figuratively and literally. Btw after hearing the slow sad version for so long, that "triumphant reprise" of the Stark theme as they break through the Bolton lines is perfect use of emotive BGM.

The best thing about Bastards is just how much it angered asoiaf drones and the level of psychotic cynicism they would go to tear down this episode while tightly clutching on to their autographed Stannis Da Mannis 8 by 10s, and it's still one of the most beloved and most reacted episode of TV in this century! Let's compare the 5 typical issues Freefolk Brains have with Bastards to Blackwater : (1) "Teleportation of the Vale" - Majority of the Northern bannermen had flocked to Ramsay for the biggest battle, not surprising the peripheries of the North weren't well guarded and were easily overrun by the huge Vale army. Plus who would they have informed? The entire Winterfell was on the field. The massive Tyrell host from the South linking up with an equally massive Lannister army in the Riverlands for Blackwater without anyone in Westeros noticing. Stannis didn't have a single scout in the Riverlands or the South? What about Robb's men who were even closer? I guess troop teleportations are epic when GRRM does it. Only slightly less ridiculous than that time Stannis teleported 20k+ men disembarking from ships!, going from one end of the wall (Eastwatch by the Sea) to the other (Castle Black), without a single Wilding straggler, elderly, woman, child, etc. noticing. When will GRRM learn to "respect the boundaries of the universe" lol. (2) "Why didn't Ramsay use the castle" - With a giant??!! Ramsay had already shown he was impulsive and not exactly defensive minded. If he would meet Stannis head on it's only logical he would be confident enough to meet a numerically inferior Jon head on. Tyrion on the other hand lunged at an army with 10 to 1 odds against him at Blackwater. "Use dah castle" seems like a stock gotcha for all the subreddit military experts, used selectively ofc. How come Mance, with such overwhelming numerical superiority and inner knowledge of the Castle's defenses as a former Night's Watch, wasn't able to formulate a more logical battle plan against 100 men?! (3) "Jon had plot armor" - Stannis got out of the ships like it was DDay, dodged a thousand arrows, and was the first person to climb those towers on dumb ladders without a shred of covering fire. What were his odds of survival again? (4) "Why didn't Sansa warn Jon" - Jon would never have accepted help from Littlefinger. He was too rigid and honor brained for that. Plus it was a hail mary, Sansa didn't know if he would come. What excuse did Tywin have? He knew he himself was coming. He wrote a ton of letters, but didn't give Tyrion a heads up to wait till his arrival and "use dah castle" as defense instead of meeting Stannis head on? Did I miss the part where Stannis had giants? (5) "The Vale was deus ex machina" - Tywin conveniently arriving when Cersei is about to take poison is the biggest deus ex machina I've ever seen. Yet those who screech about the Vale thought it was god's gift to writing. The double standards would almost be funny if they were satirical! At least Ramsay's death being universally acknowledged as one of the most satisfying deaths in TV history primarily due to the incredible lengths of slow burn they went to with him, balances out the ex machina. Tywin just randomly pops up for a Saved By The Bell victory lap without an iota of build between him and Stannis. The story of this battle is the symbolism of Jon's rebirth. Picking up on that is way more important than overcompensating with pedantry over tactics like a emotionally vacant dullard. Asoiaf fans remember this isn't actually history challenge (impossible).

well some of your defenses of the battle are quite horrible. 1.The teleportion of the vale army is just indefensibly stupid and is frankly undefendable its not just that the Vale army managed to sneak up on Ramsey its that they managed to go through Moat Calin(one of the hardest castles in Westeros to take) without Ramsey knowing. Moat Calin is the most important castle in the North so its damn near impossible to wave it off by saying "Ramsey had all his forces at winterfell" even 30 men is enough to hold Moat Calin there is no in universe excuse for how the Vale managed to sneak up on Ramsey. As for the blackwater reinforcements, it was quite different, for one there is no reason for Stannis to have scouts in the riverlands as he did not fight in the riverlands once the entire show, and even if he did have scouts there, its quite likely the would not be able to relay the information fast enough not to mention Stannis considering the entirety of his army was aboard ship in the show. Stannis sneaking up on the wildlings also makes sense. You know there is an entire wall blocking off the wildings from being able to scout Stannis army right? The wildlings currently over the wall were focused on castle black. 2.Yes its also quite dumb that Ramsey didn't use the Castle, I dont know what you are implying with the giant? The giant was killed quite easily with a barrage of arrows, had ramsey set up more archers on the walls with some oil pots wun wun would die within a minute if he tried to approach the gates. As for Ramsey being impulsive? I mean I guess its kinda a lazy explanation as the show actually makes Ramsey seem quite competent in terms of combat, and it seems like a bit of a copout for the show to say its because Ramsey is impulsive. Tyrion was contesting troops landing from rowing ships this is quite different then contesting an army fully in formation like Ramsey was going to do, and Tyrion fled back to the walls multiple times and only reproached the enemy through a surprise attack not to mention the walls of Kings Landing are far weaker and less defensible then Winterfell and even still Tyrion makes more use out of his weaker castle than ramsey tried to do. Mance's strategy was actually perfectly fine he just didn't know Stannis was coming which I already explained makes logical sense so I don't really understand this point. 3.Yes agreed its quite dumb that Stannis able to survive as the first one off the shore with no helmet, this was probably the laziest part of the blackwater but as a whole the blackwater is far more logically written. Also that doesn't make Jons plot armor any less stupid

4. Seems like you are handwaving a pretty dumb plot point. How do you know Jon would deny any help from Littlefinger? Yes Jon may not trust him but considering how desperate they were for men surely Jon would be open to idea. Also Jons army was almost completely decimated by the time Littlefinger came, Jon and his army could have been entirely slaughtered before Sansa even arrived, had Jon had the army to start with he would have never been in that position. As for why Tywin didn't inform Tyrion im guessing its because Ravens can be intercepted and shot down which would notify Stannis of his arrival so he was better off keeping it quiet. 5. I mean the deus ex machina was kinda dumb with the vale, the blackwater and the battle for the wall already had deus ex machina moments so having another battle have a deus ex machina last minute savior is just sorta boring especially one as lazy as the vale coming in undetected, also it was super obvious the vale was coming the entire episode, Tywin and Stannis coming were genuine surprises and were actually logical. Also I have to hard disagree and Ramsey being built up with a slow burn, the dude was a laughably stupid anime villian who had as much plot armor as the main characters like Jon and Dany up until his death it was only satisfying because the he was easily the most evil and sadistic person in the whole show and the actor did a great job but the idea that Ramsey was some cleverly slowly built up villain is quite laughable. Also you left out some other horrible flaws with the episode such as Jon and his army watching the shield wall surround his army instead of fighting through it and Ramsey somehow hitting rickon with perfect accuracy from a very far distance that even masterclass archers would have trouble hitting and rickon running in a straight line because the plot demanded he died, not to mention Rickon gets no lines the entire season because the show didn't want to pay the actor so the build up to his death was quite empty and pathetic. I am not denying the battles in the earlier seasons had some flaws but they pale in comparison to the mountain of shitty flaws the BotBs had.

What I never understood is why no one fought with Wun Wun. If some men went in while the wall was focused on keeping him back they could more easily break the line. You'd have to focus target, the men coming at you or the giant above.

I hated how they filmed this battle. But one thing I did enjoy about this episode was the brutality, especially when the giant (I forget their names) rips that Bolton guys head off, and when people get slammed by horses, good stuff there lol.
