Wow, the ZX version is amazing. Rated very high in the mags. Kids in school loved this version. Kids of all races, the C64, the Amstrads, the NES, and the speccy. Great graphics, playability, and gameplay.

OMG...one of the first games I played on my C64, mine was hacked with infinite lives, otherwise was impossible to finish with three lives. THAT music is was kept printed in my mind until today. Back in the day I used to record the music with a casette player in front of the TV. The SID turned a lot of average games into timeless memories.

Lord Alfajor Lucky you, my brother's copied floppy was basically untouched so you died after those three lives or whatever. I don't know if the game was sold in the US, but a few of those UK ports like Elite's Paperboy and Ghost'n Goblins apparently found their way here in the 80's.

I would play the arcade version all day and was finally pleased that the NES port was better than the arcade. Better music and two players co-op was the icing on the cake until Contra was released. Konami was pure gold!

Aaah, the early days of Konami gaming. Simple and to the point Mark. I played this game a few times and really liked the simplicity of it and the nice graphics that it had to offer in the arcades. Glad people like you Mark are sharing the love for it. Well done as always bro. Anthony..

I had the ZX Spectrum version and for me it was great back then, one of the better arcade conversions of the time. There were some good and funny solutions that the programmer found probably due to the machine's limitations: Killed enemies 'skeletonize' breifly before dying instead of a more costly 'death fall', I also loved how they diferentiated the jump-kick soldiers by making them bunny hop towards the player.

Green Beret/Rush'n Attack is the first game I remember that was actually better on console than on the arcade. The Famicom/NES port has comparable graphics, smoother controls, new stages and a phenomenal soundtrack!
@RetroCore
@RetroCore 7 жыл бұрын
Arioca it sure did. But in all honesty, Konami's arcade hardware at the time wasn't so hot. Have you seen Castlevania Arcade? Man, that looks awful for the time period it was released in.
@arioca
@arioca 7 жыл бұрын
Yes I did. Castlevania Arcade aka Haunted Castle is such a hard game with stiff controls and mediocre graphics. Ironically, no one pushed the NES console better than Konami. I'm really glad we have NES ports of Castlevania, Contra, and Rush'n Attack; imo all of them are more fun to play.

I found two weird things about the ports of Rush'n Attack. One is that the dude in the Atari 8-bit version looks like Che Guevara. Another thing that's also rather odd is that the ending part of the music from the arcade version sounds like the beginning of the 20th Century Fox jingle.

Regarding the Thompson version, Coder James Higgins had zero experience of the hardware before attempting the conversion.. He was literally just given a MO5 and a stack of French manuals. He literally had to figure out how the hardware worked while coding Green Beret . Talk about a hardware baptism by fire.

My friend had this game on NES. I was not a fan. The difficulty was too much. The characters reach was pretty short compared to the arcade and the one hit deaths sending you back to the beginning was really frustrating. Not to mention hit detection or timing seemed a bit off.
