NBA Action 98 for the Sega Saturn was the best NBA game of the 32/64 bit era.

this video hurts my inner child, i had this on saturn as a kid and thought it was great, seeing it next to the psx version, and seeing how bad it truly was makes me hurt :P

Comparing PS vs Saturn versions of ports is kind of like comparing 360 vs PS3 ports. The 360 usually always wins over PS3, just as the PS usually wins over Saturn.

PS1 didn't have Antialiasing, the N64 was the first home console to do AA. But the PS1 version was probably running at a higher resolution than the Saturn port, hence you see less jaggies.

Hmm back in the day I used to feel there was a massive difference between the PS1 graphics and the Sega Saturn ones but these days looking at them side by side there's not much in it I would still be happy with the Saturn version of the game if I liked these kinds of sports games.

PS1 version all day.

The N64 had hardware anti-aliasing which had nothing to do with how powerful the CPU was or how many Bits Nintendo claimed it had. Kinda like how the X360 uses a hardware up-scaler to give you fake 1080p output.

also the battle of chocolate baby ruth vs crunch, a hard matchup but i would give the edge to baby ruth, just slightly

What do you mean? I'm referring to multiplatform games, which the 360 has a better track record of performance over PS4, plain and simple. Just the same as multiplatform PSX > Saturn titles, with a couple exceptions.

I didn't know both versions are the same.

The PS1 does _not_ support anti-aliasing. Nor does it support any kind of filtering, bi-linear or otherwise. Furthermore, it doesn't even support perspective correct texturing.

ain't NO way (in the 5th minute) Shaq does that at that period of the game! He made sum in carrer BUT at that point in most games?

Not a fan of Basketball as a sport or as a video game to be honest but the BoP series must march on dammit! Compared to the PS1 game the Saturn port doesn't fare too well (surprise surprise!), but against all the other Basketball games for the system it holds up a little better. Despite the obvious differences in visual quality (detail, textures, frame rate, etc) NBA Live 98 is a fairly good looking Saturn game & it's certainly a better looking port than NBA Live 97 was.

Most people assume that the entire EA sports 98 line-up for the Saturn was a massive pile of shit. Not so! At least 2 or 3 of the 98 series were decent jobs & NBA Live 98 is one of them. A couple of complaints though. 1. Loooooong load times! Seriously, holy shit! I had to stop the video at one point just so the Saturn game could catch up. 2. Where is the Play-by-play? The PS1 game has it & It clearly says on the back of the Saturn box "NEW Play-by-play commentary by TNT(R) announcers".

32bit, 64bit, its almost a completely meaningless number. It only represents how the CPU handles information & how it deals with the RAM. That's it! It has zero to do with raw power. It was used in the 90's as an easy way to boast your console over someone else's. Only because back then most kids & parents didn't know what a CPU or RAM was. The whole 16 32 64 thing was just an easy way to tell people "Yo dawg this one is better! It has 32 more bits even though I have no idea what that means!"
@therealbluedragon11 жыл бұрын
No 32bit console had anti aliasing. The Saturn game runs in a lower resolution so the jaggies are more visible though the MP4 compression.

The majority of multiplatform titles have better performance graphically on the 360, this has been proven by many independent sources after careful analyzation. Examples are, Red Dead Redemption, Bayonetta, Ghostbusters, Crysis 2, etc. There are a couple websites that specialize in analyzing multiplats. Visit 'Lens of Truth', or 'Digital Foundry' at Eurogamer(dot)net for comparisons you can see for yourself. Also read classic reviews for the 32-bit consoles to see how PSX outperforms the Saturn.

@strykah92 NBA JAM 97? Either you mean JAM T.E or JAM Exteme. JAM T.E was very enjoyable yes but JAM Extreme is easily one of the worst games Aklaim ever put out & the Saturn port was nearly unplayable. Hmm I smell a future video!
@guybrohski416111 жыл бұрын
Actually the reason you see more jaggies on the Saturn was because it displayed this game in 240p, vs the PS at 360p.

You realise you're talking about mid-90's consoles here right? Because right now you sound like you're just spewing a Wikipedia page at me.

Phhhhht Metacritic! Don't sling that nonsense around like it means something. Using Metacritic in a debate is maybe half a step up from using numbers from Consolewars.
@theferpa10 жыл бұрын
See the metacritic scores from the last 2 years, PS3 (not PS4) has the same or better performance in the most of games multiplataform than the X360. Sega saturn has a complicated hardware, and a decent work by the softhouses demanding time and money. See in youtube the games like Sonic R, Grandia, Wachenroder, Panzer Dragon Saga, Shenmue (beta for saturn), Burning Rangers, and U will see the real performance in 3d games when a softhouse (SEGA) spend the right time and money.

Wow, EA could be such lazy bastards sometimes. There’s no excuse for their shoddy rendition of basketball. And that goes for both systems, not just Saturn. Yes, PSX looks way better between the two, but it still suffers from shoddy player motions and sluggish frame rate. Visual Concepts’ b-ball game was better in every respect.

Ok, stop right there. I was willing to engage you in a constructive discussion but you've decided to just start insulting me. You're comments have been misinformed, ineffectual, irrelevant or nonsensical at best. So i'm going to stop it here to prevent you from embarrassing yourself even more.
