I remember seeing my grandpa before he passed, he was a soviet veteran. I remember when I was 5 years old I sat on his lap amd asked him about his wartime and he gave me hope in humanity when he saod everytime his squad would capture a German, they would give him a blanket and cigarettes, with chocolate you know treat him like he is at home and like a human being. He would teach the Germans they captures the Russian language...My grandpa teared up when he said he tried to save that German officer they captured, but his battalion commander shoved him aside and shot the German officer...I miss him so much 😩💎❤, he was a hero trying to save everybody 💎

It's hard to believe that WW2 was so recent. 80 years ago, most of Europe was in ruins, and no one got along with eachother. Now, it feels like another world entirely. I wish the soldiers that gave their lives in that terrible war could see how it all turned out.

Nature and ressources are far more in ruins now, than in 1945. I'm not sure they fought to get a world of concrete, pollutions, pesticides and inequality for the generations to come. If most people were even thinking about that, at that time, and not trying to survive.

@@rileycumberbirch102 I never fucking talked about French invasion in the comment, I meant Britain and French weak responses to Hitler actions were foul and also what I secondly meant with the comment is that Britain was surely at brink of war with Germany, but because of their own political liers and stupid prime minister mostly. If they acted as they said they would when Hitler was taking over small other countries before Poland and also when Hitler geared up his army because of stupid laws and lies-filled treaty, the war would still happen, but shit would've been smaller. Hitler was deluded, and having two shitty countries who didn't stand up to do ANYTHING at his first moves into taking down small countries helped A LOT into his gain of conquering half of Europe. Only when Churchill came in to wipe off the shit other political men shatted there, it was when Britain was at full speed.

I'm watching this because this war destroyed life and anger towards each other grew. I try to stay human at my job. They are just young adults like me who follows one side. But one thing that kept me sane for so long is the young generation. I try to see hope that when it's all over, I see the young have peace. A hope that they would rebuild the world we once destroyed over leaders who just can't understand each other. Replace the world with a better vision. A vision without the time of war that had stopped ticking.

My great grandfather fought for Germany during the 2nd world war and I remember him telling me about how he was posted to the eastern front to fight the Russians. a grenade fell in his machine gun trench and he was the only one that noticed. without hesitation he grabbed the grenade and threw it out of the trench and in doing so he lost his whole arm. shortly after he was captured by the Russians and was sent to a Gulag. He managed to escape with his squad and made his way back to Dusseldorf with his men and the first thing he did even before seeing a Doctor was to marry my great grandmother and hold her for hours and just silently cried about what he had to witness. He may of been a Nazi but never believed in the Ideals and was just doing his part to protect his family and country

It just shows how cruel we are as humans. Yes they were the "bad guys," but not everyone of them was a fanatic. They just wanted to see a better future, and when your lives are crushed under the Great Depression, when humans feel like no one will save them... then you will see just how capable of evil ALL of us are.

One of my closest friends is German, her grandfather fought for the Wehrmacht. I’ve heard some crazy stories from her about things he shared with her, about how fighting the Soviet Union boiled down to killing men they didn’t even know, for reasons they couldn’t even understand, and about how pointless it really was. The stories I heard that stuck out the most were the ones that concerned boys, barely even 15. Crazy stuff.
