Long Shot Wargaming

Жыл бұрын

This is a 15mm wargame using the Battlegroup rule set and West Wall campaign supplement. Today the 3rd Armored Division is the spearhead of the allied advance through the Siegfried Line. This game see fearless Sherman crews go head to head with mighty German armor, skilled battlefield engineering, and outnumbered German infantry fight a tenacious defense. Please enjoy our latest wargaming adventure!
There are French armor units pictured as the American 3rd Armored Division is discussed in the intro. We are aware of this egregious error,....No need to comment =)

Love how you have done this, the historic background, the graphics of the battlegroups and the stills with the report over the top. I particularly enjoyed the audio you have going on of weapons noises, vehicle engines, radio chatter etc. Where did you pull those audios from? Feels really slick, keep it up!

Battlegroup is one of my favorite WW2 rulesets, as it deals far more with unit morale and a commander dealing with limited amounts of orders per turn rather than an "I go, you go, everything dies" game. Did you remove the air support chits from the pool? What about Immobilization and Ammo Shortage chits? I would have really enjoyed to see some of the starting BR and a bit of discussion around how each force's morale was going at different phases of the engagement. Otherwise, I always enjoy watching and reading Battlegroup AARs. Thanks.
@LongShotWargaming
@LongShotWargaming Жыл бұрын
Yes Battlegroup is unmatched in our opinion. We do as a house rule remove all numerical chits. Air is usually allocated based on the scenario. There was air support in this game but wasn't impactful enough to make the video. We should probably display BR and points totals for each force, good point. We rarely play evenly matched games from a point perspective.

I was surprised to see the Marder move forward to close the range on a Stuart, surely it didn't need to do that. As always, there's the compulsion to move your pieces forward instead of letting them sit back and shoot. I suppose you could say this simulates the poor training received by German troops at that time of the war. I always wonder if smoke was used so much in real life, it's always critical in tactical level WW2 miniatures games, partly because of the way ranges have to be shortened to make a table top battle possible, I suppose.

Thanks for the view and comment Anthony! Usually, the terrain structure comes from insulation foam (fairly standard practice), the topography is blended using sculptimold (also pretty common practice) and the step i think help most is gluing a full size piece of canvas over the whole board. This smooths the hole thing out, makes it appear seamless, and makes the play top very sturdy. Stay tuned! we are working on an exciting project right now.

I’m a beginning Battlegroup player. I can’t find rules for smoke. Where can I find those? (Awesome report, by the way!)
@louieo8961
@louieo8961 Жыл бұрын
We just made our own house rules for smoke. Basically we use the same rules for normal indirect fire (coms check/ deviation), we just roll one extra d-12 to determine wind direction and the player has to declare its smoke before he begins the strike. If a vehicle is firing a smoke shell we do away with observation and hits because its not firing at a specific target and just roll the d-12 for wind direction. The vehicle just has to annotate how many smoke shells it has before the game just like HE/ AP. We then roll a d-6 the next turn to see if it stays around or dissipates. Not perfect rules, but just kinda something we came up with on the fly so we could use it in some of the scenarios we wanted to run. Hope that helps! ( this is Rick by the way)
