Powick Mill was built in 1894, and the first hydroelectric power station built in Britain. Now converted into residential units.
Battle of Powick Bridge, fought on 23 September 1642, was the first major cavalry engagement of the First English Civil War. It was a Royalist victory, and the bridge and area was also the location of the last skirmish in September 1651.
Approaching the bridge you com across an inscribed stone that says
IN MEMORY OF THE THOUSANDS OF SCOTS, HIGHLAND AND LOWLAND,/ WHO FOUGHT HERE FAR FROM HOME, SO WELL AND SO BRAVELY,/ AGAINST INSUPERABLE ODDS AND GAVE THEIR LIVES IN DEVOTED LOYALTY,/ TO EACH OTHER AND TO THEIR LEADERS./ BATTLE OF WORCESTER/ 3 - 9 - 1651
The Stuarts were monarchs of both England and Scotland but the English had not consulted the Scots during Charles’s trial and execution.
Therefore supported Charles II. But it was here that the Royalists were defeated on 3 September 1651 by Oliver Cromwell in the final battle of the Civil War.

@@CarolandDerek Hi! I'm always willing to share my suggestions - are just my preferences though 😊. 1) Text or Voiceover - I suggest that if you don't have much to say, text is fine. But if there is a fair amount, I prefer not to read and look at the video scene instead, in which I suggest voiceover. In your video, text was fine (I also read it in the description). 2) Music or ambient sound - can go both ways. I like a nice music track if you have one that fits. Music can help set the mood. Ambient sound is nice as well, but I tend to not do ambient for a long time - I place a music track. Sometimes when I have voiceover I won't have music, or if I do, I lower the music during my voiceover. Whatever works! 👍

Stunningly beautiful. Great walk. Yes, the scars of the floods indeed very visible still. It's great that attention is given to the historical events of the past. I still don't get the notion we have learned from all those wars, deaths and sufferings. Why do humans have the inbuilt drive to fight to conquer when each person has enough on his/her hands to survive and achieve all on their own. Weirdly interesting and at the same time sadly frustrating. Maybe this beautiful area in which you found yourself softened for many the message " This is where thousands died".

OmaFarAway mans inhumanity to man. Maybe if the world went back where the leaders were women it would all be different, but maybe not 👍🌈❤️
