@@dpt300 He had friendlies surface side being shot at by missiles and flak guns, and the slow to a stop after the tunnel was to visually confirm a target. The speed it he was going at was of the utmost importance to try to make sure as many of his Squadron made it back home alive as possible. Furthermore, friendlies were engaging another force at the same time as this mission and the Cylons only retreated after the facility blew up, meaning that the longer he took going through that tunnel the more friendlies that potentially could have died in that other engagement. Maybe take into account the entire scene and the moving parts around it before dismissing something as "for nothing".

This was never intended to be a story about how unaided humans coped with an unprecedented disaster. From the beginning it was always about how God assisted them in achieving His goals. I say this as an atheist who enjoyed the series despite being annoyed by that aspect of it.

Real space combat for fighter like space craft is 100% suicide. As is all space combat. Essentially first side to fire first wins, but most likely the destruction is mutual.

You should watch the expanse. Space is deadly dangerous even without combat, but within combat, its crazy dangerous.

You might want to check out Babylon 5 if you want to see more space battles with that feel.

Scary, but also fun. In another 100 years or so maybe this is what our Space Force will be like. Out of all the sci-fi series, I think Battlestar Galactica gave us the most realistic look at what future space based warfare will look like.

He had it easy. He can slow down, strafe and/or hover. We had had high speed aircraft trying to hit targets on the floor while not hitting walls or pillars while being shot at by small arms fire. At least that's how I remember it... On top of that, having to repeat the pass through at least 3+ times to be thorough... XD

I notice middle eastern and celtic sounds and tonalities. I think it gives the soundtrack a very earthy feel, kind of a beginnings of civilization vibe, which was what the original series hinted at.

Bear McCreary was the new kid on the block when this show was made. Now he's a god among musicians. He scores most of the best shows now.

@@EvilDogMedia If you like what Bear did for BSG, you have to check out his music for Human Target. Criminally underrated show, for what it was (tongue-in-cheek, cheesy 80s-style action-adventure). Bear's music on HT really leans into his Williams-esque mastery of leitmotifs and it's really astoundingly good, clever, and high-production stuff for a network show. For the S2 finale, he assembled the largest live orchestra ever recorded for a TV score, and it shows. I've always found it disappointing when movies/TV rely on music to support the story. It frequently leads to the use of overly atmospheric, generic Zimmer/RCP/MV type stuff that sounds awesome but doesn't seem to mean much. Instead, I think music is much more powerful when it supports characters. That's what Bear does, and you can literally hear characters announce themselves and grow and evolve and live and die in the music. And then once you're done with that, check out John Powell's score for How to Train Your Dragon. The movie is great, but it's the music that really makes it. Powell is by far my favorite Zimmer acolyte, and he's really distinguished himself with a unique sound and penchant for fun and unexpected instrumentation- just like Bear here, with his focus on Asian and Middle Eastern sounds.

BSG was such a game-changer for science fiction when it came out, and I think Bear McCreary's music was a huge part of that. I love the big orchestra sound for sci-fi, a la John Williams. The only problem is that people started thinking sci-fi could ONLY ever sound like that. Bear McCreary showed us all it didn't have to, and it was awesome.

@@georgeowain The way I see that battle, Pegasus was the only ship with the armor left to bear the brunt of the Basestars to give the other ships time to get away. Galactica didn't have the staying power to occupy the attention of the Cylons for long enough to do the same job.

@@cfmontolio yes, however there have been concepts brought to light of plans that could have allowed both Pegasus and Galactica to escape that battle, not to mention Lee disobeyed a direct order by his father to not come back for him.

We use the hidden viper trick shown here but with a mix of raptors and strike raptors. The standard raptors use their electronics to broadcast battlestar signatures and bait the cylon base ships in. While the cylons come to take a look the non strike raptors unload drones and jump out. The strike raptors unload their nuclear missiles as close as they dare and run. Then you have a retrofitted “ fire ship” jump in behind the cylons. The fire ship is a vessel loaded with several nuclear weapons set on a direct collision course with the cylons ( the person driving it will be committing a 1 way suicide run unless they’re in a viper set to disengage at the last minute with the ship automatically tracking a base ship). While that’s going on both Pegasus and Galactica jump in over new Caprica. Galactica immediately goes to supporting the folks on the ground while Pegasus uses her superior firepower and her full armory to keep the cylons off balance. While the cylons are engaged with both the fire ship and the strike raptors additional vipers deploy from Pegasus to keep them that way. A 3rd wave of raptors jump in on the opposite side of the planet pumping out more CF signals to make it look like additional vessels might be coming ( broadcasting Valkyrie class ship signatures etc). Then they deploy drones with self tracking nuclear warheads mixed in. While this is going on the Vipers and Strike raptors head for whatever ship they can land on fastest, then Galactica and Pegasus provide cover fire for the fleeing civilian ships. Both Battlestars deploy nuclear missiles and jump out. They’ll loose some raptors and vipers and probably get shot up a bit but you’ll still have 2 functional Battlestars, whatever folks got off the planet and the cylons now aware you’ll resort to insanity to beat them if needed

I would recommend you check Black Sails. It's basically a prequel to treasure island book. First season the studio forced the creative team to make a GOT competitor. The creative team however stuck to their position and each season improves.

If it hadn´t raped and murdered the old one I probably would´ve agreed...except for the stupid ending.

She brought a little more depth to the character. I'm sure the OG Starbuck could have easily done so. But the writing was different back then. I don't know if another dude would have been able to pull of another "male" Starbuck. She was still tough(maybe a little tougher than male Starbuck), still the best pilot in the fleet, and still Apolo's best friend. I like it, and Dirk Benedict is my man from A-Team & BSG. I mean he played Face Man & StarBuck!! #winninginthe80's

Indeed. I don't like many of the aspects of nBSG but they do have some of the best depictions of Space Combat in all of Sci Fi. And all of STD is awful, but the Klingon - Federation war was some of the absolute worst in that show. Specially how they end it.

Despite the fact that it wouldn't fly in space? Wings don't work too well in a near vacuum, and the wings were even too small to work adequately in an atmosphere.

I like the Viper Mk VII much better. The Mk II looks way too bulky, and the cockpit design is utter garbage, with next to no cockpit rear visibility, which considering that close dogfighting appears to be the only type of combat they do on this show, is a MASSIVE disadvantage.

The Viper is extremely well designed for space. It has RCS thrusters mounted along the top, bottom and wing tips, has a large main thruster and reverse thrusters, so it can accelarate, brake and change it's heading at will. In atmosphere it would turn into a lawn dart, but most sci-fi starfighter designs are the same. The even move more or less correctly in the series, with the RCS used to point the nose or make small sideways corrections. @@dwightstewart7181

This one was especially poignant as it was the first time the Colonials were the ones conducting the attack and not just reacting and running as they had been all the while. This is the first time they really had a "victory" in this war, their celebration was absolutely warranted.
