Battling for your child's life in a foreign country - Chloe's Story

Growing Up Without Borders

Growing Up Without Borders

6 жыл бұрын

In this video we share one of our greatest fears when traveling abroad...Getting sick or even worse having your child get sick.
We were staying at the coast of Ecuador in Atacames and Chloe had a really high fever. After a few days of back and forths to local clinics, multiple IV's and blood tests, we rushed her to Quito to a hospital to get her treated. After 1 week of being there, Chloe came out healed!!!
Nothing really prepares you for something like this and it was really an emotional roller coaster to keep our faith strong and resist fear.
Thanks to the love and support of family, friends and incredible Ecuadorian people plus the amazing technology to translate and communicate worldwide everything came together.

Loved your video and as a mom i could only imagine the stress that you, your husband and your kids had. Soo glad she was taken care of. There are many countries who actually have amazing healthcare practices that don't see the limelight. You are fortunate. I think it was a good call to share your experience so that families like yours who choose to experience the world without borders can understand what to expect. Thank you. On a side note, less than 20 days till i go to Europe! WOOHOO!

I am also very happy to know that the child survive without any repercussions. This is a very beautiful family and I hope God continues to bless them. For people traveling to Ecuador I suggest that they never drink tap water in coastal cities. Also they should brush their teeth with bottled water and they need to rinse any type of fruit and salads with bottled water. Actually bottled water are you best friends in Ecuador. I live there for 10 years and it took me six months for my body to acclimate to be local Flora and it is a very painful experience involving very high fevers nausea and diarrhea. In certain cities like latacunga that is at the bottom of the tallest volcano in the world you can drink the tap water since it comes directly from melting snow from the volcano. Actually it is the best what are I have ever tasted because it comes out of the tap ice cold. Even though this is true I would not risk it I did so because of an emergency and was quite pleasantly surprised. By the way Ecuador is Paradise and I plan to retire there very soon. The people are screwed up but Gringo's do not see that aspect of their personalities since the locals always display their best behavior in front of them. The problem is that if you look like them as I do is this a completely different story. Actually it is embarrassing to me to admit this since both of my parents were born there and I now have dual citizenship and I am citizen of Ecuador also

I so understand what you felt at that moment. We`re in Colombia for the moment and let me tell ya, I carry antibiotics with me when traveling outside the city. Of course, I ask our physician first.

@davidrolando999

When I was down there the president Rafael Correa had implemented socialized medicine and invested a great deal of money in new hospitals equipment and training for their doctors. To answer your question everything should have been free except for the visit to the private Clinic that misdiagnosed the child and the airfare to get her to a free Hospital. I believe that this occurred in the beginning of 2018 or towards the end of 2017. The Socialist president retired the beginning of 2017 so the socialized medical system will still in effect. Right now it has become a mess because the neoliberal party is trying to cause a recession in order to privatize these hospitals. But they are going to end up doing is purchasing oldest super expensive equipment are pennies on the dollar and then charge exorbitant amounts of money to treat only the privileged people of Ecuador, and the tourists who can afford this type of treatment

Yeah... Most of people would have thrown in the towel and left tontake care of their child. Some people though not only continue but also continue to make videos about their child's pain and make money out of it. Lovely beautiful precious family you have, why do you exploit them? I have seen my child suffer and never in a million years filming for KZfaq would have been my thought during those hours... But hey, here you go, you have my view. Hope your children stay safe and healthy through all that travel.

I paid close attention to the dates that you posted this video and what I'm going to tell you is probably going to know why a lot of people but you experience the effects of socialized medicine. I am the first generation United States citizen born in New York City. I have a master of science degree in aeronautics and have worked in aviation industry my whole adult life or since I was 15 years old and I have never had decent Healthcare until I moved to Ecuador in the Year 2007. Rafael Correa was a Democratic Socialist president that was empower for a decade and was elected 4 times in a row by the people of Ecuador. He basically modernized Ecuador by refinancing the external debt, getting rid oil companies that will keep you in most of the revenues from Ecuadorian oil sales I'm bringing in the Chinese that gave us better terms and help to modernize the country building hydroelectric plants and brand new highways and both see and airports. One of the great things he did was socialized and modernized the Ecuadorian medical system making brand new hospitals, which you experience in Quito, and importing Millions upon millions of dollars of equipment and training 4 their doctors. I was diagnosed with several chronic diseases that had accumulated throughout 50 years of improper Healthcare. I was treated and cured of many of these ailments and had orthopedic surgery done for free while living down there. That is something that the richest country in the planet which I was born in had never done for me although I have been paying taxes since I was 16 years old and I am now 50. I had to come back to United States because of family emergency and in the process Rafael Correa retired and moved to Belgium. During that process the neoliberal party took the country back and is in the process of creating a recession in order for them to privatize everything that the Socialists implemented. I am really curious to know what your opinion socialism is since you have traveled to so many different countries. Did you pay attention to these aspects of life or did you just taken the touristy aspects of these countries?
