Its july 2022 and I have decided to go on a bikepacking trip across europe with a six speed brompton loaded with camping gear. Not knowing what to expect I chose Eurovelo 8 Mediterranean Route as my first long distance bike route, that should lead me along the breezy Mediterranean sea.

In this video, you will join me along an exciting eurovelo 8 bikepacking trip as I woke up at 5 am to the sound of buzzing mosquitoes. It was a restless night, and I couldn't escape their bites even while hiding inside my bivy. I decided to pack up and bike to the nearest water fountain to clean myself. As I cycled, I enjoyed the changing colors of the sky and played some music to lift my spirits. Along the way, I came across a natural park and a cement mining site, experiencing diverse landscapes. However, I faced setbacks when I couldn't find a working water fountain and suffered from dehydration and knee pain due to the hot weather. I had to book a hotel to recover, and while cycling, I heard the sound of gunfire and faced strong headwinds. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I reached my hotel, feeling both exhaustion and accomplishment.

EuroVelo 8 (EV8), named the Mediterranean Route, is a 7,560 km long EuroVelo long-distance cycling route running from Cadiz, Spain to Athens, Greece, and then continuing to İzmir, Turkey and to the island of Cyprus. It is situated in the eastern part of the Bassa parmense and is crossed by the Lorno stream, from which it takes its name2. Colorno is known for its Reggia di Colorno, a former ducal residence that was also used by Napoleon’s stepson Eugène de Beauharnais and by Maria Luigia of Austria, the second wife of Napoleon3. The palace has a large park and hosts several cultural events and exhibitions.
