i get that she wants to be objective and neutral, but the ultimate truth is that bart stole Krzysztof's band and concept, (that is incredibly, new, creative and refreshing) and just for that reason nobody shoul support barts ripoff, shame on metalblade

What I don't get is, Bart is clearly shifting away from old Batushka's style. Then why did he stole the band's name? Just start a new band...

The reason why Krzysztof Drabikowsk released the record on Bandcamp was to get feedback from fans/experts, then improve the production sound and then release it in physical and a way better/improved Panihida...let's wait.

It's pretty clear from the two albums that Panihida (Krzysztof's) is the spiritual successor to Litourgiya. While Hospodi (Bart's) isn't a complete dumpster fire, it's relatively generic and subpar compared to their previous releases. Panihida's production is going to be rough simply because Krzysztof doesn't have a label backing him to get things done properly; this was all done in his home studio, and it hurts it a little bit, but he released it anyway to show that he is the true Batushka and not Bart. If he had a label like he did with the debut (btw, Bart owns/owned Witching Hour), it would've been a more solid release, but he doesn't, cuz of the situation handed to him. Bart could've easily made his own band without stealing the name, and it would've been okay, but it was clearly done to make money (look up Bart's history if you want more details), and the people who don't know the whole story are going to believe that his is the true Batushka. Listen to both albums, listen to the stories, make your own decision. For me, Krzysztof wins, and it's a solid 4/5 for me.

I sincerely tried to listen tracks from Gospodi. Boring and dull. I tried Panikhida a month ago and I listen whole album everyday (sometimes a few times). Panikhida is very estetic, dark, mantric etc.

If you're a fan of the first record is actually pretty easy to see that Krzysztof's version is the only one that matters, the other record feels like a washe up version at beast.

Appreciate that you guys reviewed both albums at once, but the fact that Metal Blade hasn't responded to, and even has done some sketchy things trying to diminish, the issue between the two projects, just makes me not want to support the Hospodi project at all. All the burden is on that project to speak for all this bullshit. Krzystof's project is superior in this right.

I don't know, panihida sounds like a direct continuation of liturgiya, the production sounds fine. Hospodi sounds like a black metal band typing to ape liturgiya's sound and not really succeeding.

Panihida has better vocals and guitar parts than Litourgiya. imo i like it better.

Hospodi could be the greatest album ever written but it still wouldn't have any business presenting itself as Batushka. That's the unfortunate truth of the matter: the members of Bartushka could genuinely try their hardest to record a good album and put on a good live show and it still won't put right what is very wrong here.

Understandably, she looked very nervous doing this particular review. After reading and hearing about the controversy (missed out on the debut album so I had no idea), I wouldn't want to accept doing that review. Sarah, you did good. Still wished you gave Belzebub a better score :P

Strictly music wise, panhida is really good, maybe top 10 of the year good, a little sad Sarah was put off a bit by the production, hospodi is decent but lacking passion.

The production wasn't rushed it was done by one guy who didn't have the resources metal blade had. He couldn't get the best production without the original lable. If anyone has additional info let me know.

I saw Infernal conjuration a few weeks ago and ended up buying the album that was mentioned. The band is really good live. Also, how does someone mispronounce melee "may-lee"? I get the polish/Russian names, but Melee?

Actually Panihida is not rushed it was completed some time before the bs ... Hospodi is a product of less-inspired people in shorter timespan. Not really a bad record just a bit boring. Panihida just feels like a true successor

Wow, surprised comments haven't been disabled here!! Just FYI to our host- Krzysztof is not a "former member"- he wrote, arranged and recorded the music on that first incredible album. AND as for the effed up first album orders, that was NOT Krzysztof's doing, that was Bart's doing, as he did the business side of things. Kris is the artistic guy and Bart (aka "fat guy") put up the money to buy 8-string guitars, costumes, etc, so he did invest a lot in the band. But without the main songwriter, SORRY, there is no band. That first album got rave reviews because of the MUSIC, not because of costumes. International law may not be on Krzysztof's side, but I sure am. I have listened to Hospodi and nope nope nope it is not the same quality of songwriting, despite the better production.

I was looking forward to this. Honestly the drama completely made me disinterested with either release despite enjoying the first one. It’s been more entertaining to hear people’s videos on the subject. Also, Cult Of Fire is the shit, as is Death Karma.

While the production on Panihida could be better, I don't find it lacking either, and it certainly doesn't take anything away from the music for me.

This is the first time I've looked up a band on the Metal Archives and the their status shows Disputed.

I admit I haven't listened to Hospodi that much, but that's because it didn't grab me, like, at all. The brutality and pain and lo-fi production of Panihida is what makes it so great, dammit! It's ideal mood music, whereas Hospodi sounds, like you said, gimmicky, and slick. I give Hospodi 2/5, and Panihida 4.5/5 skulls,here on Overkill Fancamp Reviews.

I really hope Панихида will be released on CD. It's incredible that no label signed it as most Litourgiya fans prefer it... And really, It as the sound of Litourgiya. Hospodi sounds nothing like Litourgiya.

It's easy. Metal blade is Faketushka.. the other one is the legit one. The end I am convinced that they are 100% doing this on purpose to resemble the religion they represent. I mean it's literally the exact same thing when the orthodox split back in the day. Why is no one seeing this relation being so insanely close that it has to be on purpose

Krzysztof´s Batushka is the real and only Batushka for me. And in my humble opinion his record is superior. But art its subjective as we all know and people can listen to whatever they want. I just don't think its fair they use the name and imagery of the band and be praised by their peers while Krzysztof is alone fighting an unfair battle.

It's amazing that her one real complaint about the real Batushka album is the production, AND she still rated it higher. Which shows the song writing IS far superior. Had it been recorded with Metal Blade's money, instead of probably in a basement, the huge gap in quality would be even wider.

But what's the band on tour right now?? I couldn't care less for the controversy, it just want to know who am I listening to and who can I expect to See! So confusing Great review:)

I don't have anything against this band (these bands??) or their fans, it's just not my thing musically. I still loved the review, though, Sarah! Glad you're back (though you didn't seem to go far since you keep up with Instagram so well!). Also, is the drama behind this band the same drama that happened with Queensryche??

Not my cup of tea, but just for listening to Sarah telling the short tale of batushka was worth it! The Infernal Conjuration record has been non stop listening! Great record! More Sarah! She rules!

Interesting opinion, good review

I had the opportunity to see them live at wacken a couple years ago and I agree it was visually stimulating. However, watching candles burn and a cloaked man move in slow motion is only intriguing to me for about 10 min. Not bad... just not my bag. Enjoyed the review and breakdown of the drama!

When I heard the first track Krysiuk put out, I thought it sounded very boring and generic, but I couldn't place what it was lacking that made it sound like it. At 5:25, you say why it sounded generic. At least Panihida sounds like Batushka, you know?

Before know about the members fight, I listened Hospodi thinking they were the real Batushka (I was disappointed). Then I listened Panihida and it became one of my favorites metal albums. Easy as that.

I feel like, all things considered, *both* projects might be better off changing their names. Although I do think Drabikowski was screwed over here, seeing as he was the mastermind behind the band-and in a just world, I do think it would be Krysiuk who would relinquish the Batushka name and hoe his own row-I feel like it would be reasonable truce of sorts for both of them to pursue their own individual visions under new monikers and dispense with forcing fans to "choose sides" as to which is the "real" band. In any case, Drabikowski's album seems more to my taste, although in all fairness the concept behind the Krysiuk-led version's album and the more organic approach the band took on it is not unappealing even if the songwriting is weaker.

This is a difficult review to do objectively given all the BS. I think Sarah did a great job. However, I do disagree. I personally love Panihida (the real Batushka)!

These were fair and pretty spot on reviews imo but I have to say one thing about all if this controversy... while I can appreciate you striving to avoid letting the controversies surrounding these albums color your reception of the music and trying to stay as neutral as possible in all of this, I think it's disingenuous to say that metal blade has been disabling comments simply because the feedback has been so toxic. To me it's pretty obvious that metal blade is trying it's hardest to suppress any discussion of the controversy surrounding the band, which imho is troubling way for a label to act and quite frankly is just another misstep in a long step of missteps when it comes to this label. They still put out great music and I always pay attention to them as a label when I comes to the music but I cannot abide their shady business practices.

I definitely go with the one that has "songwriting", it's a way more solid and give me that feeling "man, I want listen that again", which didn't happened with the metalblade record. PS: I still didn't listen to the first batushka... Fun fact: I was listening to the "bandcamp album" on bus as standing. I guess the sound of my earphones were too high and there was that woman sitting close, looking at me with eyes frightened, she clearly never heard something similar. I just smirk and started to look in another direction.

To Sarah and all BANGERTV team, and all fans of black metal in comments section, i have one suggestion. If you love Батюшка ( mostly Панихида but also Господи) you could chek/review album PRA SILA - VUKOV TOTEM from band ALL MY SINS, they are realy good Atmospheric Black/Pagan Metal from Serbia. There music realy is a vast spiritual journey throughout the realms of southern slavic mysticism. I think they deserve more attention, they are realy good band. Thats all from me. Sorry for bad english. All best from Serbia to all of you and i hope that this Батюшка saga will end up good for everyone, especially for members of both projects.
