When Alice was a enemy of Batwoman and the Bat team she was such a troublesome enemy and when she's not their enemy nor their friend, she can be more of a nuisance but so far she's been quite harmless and a little bit friendly

2:44-3:00 Ryan clearly showed signs of emotional intelligence and close observational prowess. She saw the look of concern on Alice's face and assigned her to protect Mary, knowing full well that she would have wanted the job.

Even A Gifted mind would want someone else's hands to make all of his toys. Particularly if he doesn't want to end up being dead because of them.
