We're seeing more and more interest in the idea of a mulcher all the time, we sell many of them on the front of very large compact track loaders like Kubota's SVL97, where we're adding cooling packs on the back to deliver all of that hydraulic horsepower down to a very aggressive drum with big teeth. This, though, is constructed a little bit differently. BaumaLight still refers to this as a mulcher and it does a similar job. But there are some differences in its construction that are going to allow it to work on the back of a small tractor. Where those big compact track loader mulchers generally have big aggressive teeth that are going to go and take chunks out of the wood. This uses these much smaller ones so that you're a little bit lower horsepower is applied over a smaller area, allowing this to go and work its way through and mulch that wood up.

I love these implements. I’ve seen tractor time with Tim use his many times and think they’re awesome. I wish you could rent these! I need one for a week but can’t justify spending $10,000 to buy one. Every tractor dealership should rent these in their fleet

It would be cool if United Rentals. Sunbelt or other had these..they would probably spend alot of time in for repairs from people hitting rocks etc.

It'd be good if they did. One thing I wish Baumalight could use to improve the attachment is making it quick-hitch compatible. The 1p24 stump grinder already is.

I think the issue a a rental store would be the teeth. You know how everything you rent is dull? This machine has about $900 worth of teeth on it if there are 60 of them. They say 3 rotations, my experience has been 2. They can usually be sharpened a couple times. Unless you have rocks... too many variables for a rental unit I would think.

The one time I used one of these I was highly advised to have a loader on the tractor and keep the bucket down and angled as a deflector to keep things from being shot too far directly out from under the front. Does also mean that you need to pay attention so that you're not just dragging a chip pile with the loader however.

Cant say I am any more convinced this thing would do any better a job than a quality brush hog (at least for 99.8% of clearing). Only a brush hog would not make me cry after hitting the countless granite rocks hiding among the brush the way those fragile (overpriced) carbides would.

Note the skid pad on the left front of the implement (couldn't see from this video if there is also a skid pad on the right front of the implement but assume so). There does not appear to be any skid pads on the rear of the implement. Tells me the manufacturer expects this implement to be used driving forward and not in reverse. If I bought one I would fabricate a guard on the machine itself to deflect flying debris down towards the ground. Something similar to what most rotary mowers have on their front and/or rear. Thanks for the useful review. Much appreciated.

I've been considering one of these...it seems like something you'd use a whole bunch at first, and then sparingly thereafter. I'd say it would be something to rent, but no one has them to rent (and the rental places near me suck anyway. It's 45 miles to a decent rental yard).

Why? Front three point hitch ańd pto 👍🏽. My wery old Kubota B7100D has a front frame (lift and turn) and a pto for snowblower use. But yes, I know about reversing hours a day at work plowing snow between houses with a blade behind the tractor (Valmet/Valtra 365). Kubota is nice, but I would really like a Fendt 211...

@@mattman6759 One thing could be a little unpleasant though. It could throw rocks and stuff up on the driver. In this configuration the bigger wheels in the back and the large axle/transmission shields the driver a little more. Or so I think anyways... And then there is the question regarding the front axle load. The stress on the frame/axle could need a "thougher" tractor?

Short answer is it is possible. You can use this on small standing trees that can be sucked under the tractor and pushed at good speed to the front of the tractor. It is a great machine. We have the 348 and I would recommend them.

I was surprised to see the difference between a hydrostat and a gear driven transmission. But what about tractors that have the power reverser or in Kubota language I believe it's called the GST? Also on a hydrostat I have seen tractors get overheated when doing heavy brush cutting and the gear driven don't have near the issues of getting too hot.
@MessicksEquip

Gst would have the same issues, moves too fast. Overheating a hydro is very uncommon, this is very easy work for it.

We've got a mulcher where I work. I can not remember the brand name of it for the life of me. We put it on a Cat 299D2 two speed skid steer with a I believe a 15,000 pound warn winch on the back of the machine. It sounds like you are tearing the world up when you cut down a small tree with it. Edit: mulcher is a Denis.
