Late fall is a transitional time of year for hiking in Colorado. We like to describe it a putting fresh clean bedding on your bed and crawling in to enjoy the cozy feel. That said, winter is slowly beginning, the wilderness is going into its long nap as the mountains are accumulating snow. We are just waiting for them to create a good base for snowshoeing before we head up.
Don't have a lot of time? Need to get in a few miles? Head on down to Parker, CO to the Bayou Gulch Open Space area and take on the Two Bridges Trail. A great multi-loop hike on the plains that is easy on the feet, big on the endless prairie views and a great open space walk.
This is a multi-use trail, hiker, biker and horse. That said, we went during the week and saw one bike and two people. Besides the cool fall breeze, songbirds and occasional distant small planes were the sounds of the trail. It was cool, in the mid 30s and dominated with a Colorado bluebird sky.
