Very good overview about attending the Bayreuther Festspiele. Since 2008, I have gone to the festival several times with a German friend. Getting tickets becomes easier after your first visit. You can also try to buy tickets on the day of a performance from the ticket office at the Festspielhaus, usually at 9 am. Arrive early.

Thank you for this excellent introduction, I have just got tickets for the Ring next year and am so excited. I’ll be sure to make it a full scale pilgrimage like you did. It’s certainly been a lifelong ambition for me.

I am so thrilled for you! I had it on my bucket list but heard about the long wait, so I figure I will sign up for the lottery this year and I was so shocked I got it the first time! I thought maybe the legendary wait is overblown? But I guess it’s not? I am so shocked now.

Bayreuth is also on my bucket list. You are so lucky to have attended! Would love to see more B rolls from his home and the halls of the theatre.

I also attended the festival for the first time this year and also for Parsifal. I'll be there again next year, but this time I got my tickets at the "Sofort-Kaufen" on their website.

Did you rent a car for 2 months? Bayreuth is in the middle of nowhere.

Oh I wish I could drive around Europe but no, I travelled only by train and on foot when I’m in the city centre. I’ve always been under the impression that Bayreuth is in the middle of nowhere too! But it’s actually very reachable by train from Nürnberg:)

@@Culturechaise I will go to Bayreuth for 1st time next summer. Defnitely check out the Margravial Opera House I hear it's very beautiful inside. Read the book "Bayreuth: The Early Years" by Robert Hartford it's a compilation of articles by visitors of the 1876 opening, including a funny report from Mark Twain. Also visit Wagner's beautiful old house in Tribschen, on Lake Lucerne, where he composed Die Meistersinger.

Very, very good ! You have all my admiration for how you prepared yourself to go to Bayreuth. The choice of Parsifal is excellent and, together with Gotterdammerung and Lohengrin, it is my favorite Wagner opera. I greet you with affection and deference. I was very pleased to see such an intelligent, prepared and mature young woman in the presence of the Titan of music history. Well done, well done and still good!
