I like the Villanova breakdown but I strongly disagree with the notion that the Knicks should trade Randle. His ability to create from the high post as both a scorer and passer is exactly what this team needs to be elite on offense. Do you really want to put all your eggs in one basket and have Brunson operate ala James Harden? I'd much prefer a balanced team where you have two points of attack (Jokic/Murray, KG/Pierce, Amare/Nash). Come playoff time, you will be much more difficult to scheme against.

I went back and watched a bunch of Nova games and it looks like all four of them can do the dribble hand-off to screen to pull up 3 with every combination of the four. Then I went to thehighlow io game clips site to filter every Randle 3 from assist and Randle assist to 3 from Nova cats. Brunson already taught the quick action to Randle. The two pull this action handfully going back to Jalen's first year on the Knicks. Its a matter of time the FIVE of them can do this interchangeably with each other. I have a feeling Knicks might be one of the top teams in all kinds of 3pt stats next season

If everyone makes it to playoffs healthy, I say we run it with this team plus a great big man (we need one after hartenstein), including Randle. We have multiple variations of a starting line up that's proven to win any game. Randle can take pg duties and out Brunson and donte out to stretch the floor with mikal. Hart plus donte mikal mitch etc is crazy defense. We have decent size and we have Randle, og, hart, and Mitchell would can play the 5. We can play small ball with a pretty crazy defensive and fast team. I'm so excited because if donte can learn curry's off ball movement, precious/randle can take on post playmaking with Brunson hart and og available for playmaking, scoring, and then mikal as a Swiss army knife and length. It's crazy what this team can do, I actually think we will struggle esrly season since there are so many lineups that can be put out there

I don't see Julius Randle going anywhere. Even though he has struggled in the past couple of postseasons with the Knicks, they did really well with him and Brunson in the lineup; plus, he is the perfect guy to put at the 5 whenever they wanna play small ball. The real issue is how expensive this roster will be. Brunson and Randle are the highest-paid players on the team; Bridges's contract makes him the 3rd highest. Hart just signed an extension. DiVincenzo is on a reasonable, but pretty sizeable deal. Unless OG, Hartenstein, or both of them take less money, one of them will probably be gone. In the case of Hartenstein, that would be a big blow to the Knicks considering Robinson's injury history.
@Akwasi.Almighty
@Akwasi.Almighty 9 күн бұрын
Trading Julius would be foolish, the only scenario I see them doing that is to get another power forward of equal or greater value, or a star true point guard so they could move JB the the 2 slot. As it stands, they’re keeping Randall at 4, OG at 3, and starting Bridges at SG to pair his elite defense with Anunoby at the wing and his scoring prowess with Brunson in the back court. Donte and JHart are going to be in the 6/7 slots which will add a lot of depth to the 2nd unit and allow them to preserve the starting lineup’s health for a deep postseason run.
@cheetah219
@cheetah219 5 күн бұрын
I suspect there will be pretty much equal minutes to who's starting and who is finishing games. We gotta preserve health, especially mitch who I think is going to stay on the bench quite a bit while we explore small ball lineups with OG, Precious and Randle at the 5. We really need another big man who can tip out and playmake in the post. Those nail plays by hartenstein were huge in the playoffs and that kind of adjustment could be a critical change late season. Right now, I don't see any major moves we can make with the remaining big men out there. But, hopefully next Feb we can make one more big trade once thibs has a few months with this team

There’s legit no basketball reason to trade Julius Randle from this roster. He’s still the second best player on the team and will get touches. Having Donte, OG, and Mikal is great because none of them need to dribble to be effective. Jalen and Randle SHOULD BE the primary ball handlers
@cheetah219
@cheetah219 5 күн бұрын
He's a two time all nba player who we desperately needed in the playoffs. If he was there, we could have had a better chance against the Pacers and the sixers series could have been less demanding and fewer injuries. He gives the team so much flexibility with lineups too since we have real pgs now. Randle can do what he does best with drive fast breaks, post up, draw in defense and double teams. His weakness was always trying to decide to pass or score, but now he can focus primarily on scoring and passing can come if he gets trapped in a double team. Him, Brunson and mikal on the floor at the same time means Brunson cant get doubled anymore and with Mitch in the paint with cutting donte or hart can get great ball movement. I think we could see 6 or maybe 7 players average double ppg next year (Brunson, og, Randle, bridges, donte, hart, and maybe Mitchell, duece or precious can get close

This entire video is based on a false premise: that guys having played together in college provides a cheat code to a title. In the NBA, every player has had to adapt to different coaches and styles since grade school. Part of reaching this level is the ability to adapt and the smarter the players, they quicker they can mesh. It takes a summer of practice and a few months of the regular season, at most, for players to adjust. The Celtics had two new starters this season and blew every other team out of the building from Day One. What matters is that these college players who were in the same system happen to be great players. Now you just have to hope that Thibs doesn't wear them out playing impossible minutes. Which is a big ask.

Im so tired of ANYONE saying Randle can go or is expendable. When we play a tough opponent, we will need Randle's scoring and iso. Last year when this team played with Mitch OG Brunson DeVo Hart is was MAGIC! Run n Gun Defensive team. I never saw the knicks play so well. But then the injuries piled up. Adding Bridges along with Randle and a healthy Roster will Championship level. Only 2 questions... Will Tibbs allow deeper rotations so that players are more rested for the playoffs... And is there a way to resign Hartenstein. We need him too. He takes this team WAY over the top.

There was a two-time national champion Kentucky team that came into the NBA (NBL, actually) as a unit... in 1949. Later got collectively in trouble for points shaving in college, iirc. Anyway, I'm not buying this "college teammates" theory. College teammates just don't spend that long a career together in college, especially nowadays.
@deiondre0
@deiondre0 11 күн бұрын
I usually dont buy the college connection either but Jay Wright’s Villanova teams are the exception. They were known to stay into their junior or senior years. That type of chemistry is hard to find in today’s NBA unless your team won a ring with its current core (Warriors, Nuggets, Celtics)

@@2216sammy Sorry, not getting the "Nova" reference. The team with all those KY Wildcats (yes, two championships in 3 seasons, plus I assume a freshman campaign, so, yes 4 years and not one-and-done) on it was the Indianapolis Olympians. The "use college teammates" plan worked pretty well in the first year as they won the Western Division regular season but lost in the Division finals. Then they finished 4th, but I'm not sure whether the scandal interfered with their success in the second year.

We all can agree that Randle hasn’t been amazing or close to his regular self during the playoffs. But that’s what having a deep team is for, to make up for your flaws. Prime example is the Boston Celtics THIS YEAR. There were plenty of times where Tatum flat out played terrible. But due to their team being so stacked, they were able to cover his mistakes which is in the end how the won a championship. It’s not like Brown played amazing either, he played average but was consistently average while Tatum was all over the place. Again, having teammates like Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Porizingis etc make them elite

Knicks have no need to trade randle.. moving devo and hart to the bench reinforces their rotation and considering how well they played as starters should boost their games playing against subs more. Plus thibs staggers his minutes depending on matchups. The fact they can adjust to any variety of lineups on both ends is going to be crucial.

@senorfrog5605
@senorfrog5605 7 күн бұрын
people are making way too big of a deal about what the knicks gave up for bridges. they gave up their own 2025 frp + the bucks protected frp. both will probably end up being low first rounders. then they gave up their own 2027 pick, which is kind of a coin flip. with the new cba, its hard to tell what the knicks will look like in 2027, but brusons signing an extension, OG just signed a 5 year deal, bridges/dvo/hart will still be under contract by then (i think). randles also going into a contract year. the team should still be decent in 2027. the pick swap, probably wont even get exercised because bk is going balls deep into a rebuild and will almost certainly be worse than the knicks. the SRP is whatever too. and bogdonovics contract is expiring (?) or does he have a player option? either way its a contract coming off the books. all the knicks really gave up, are 2 potentially decent FRPs in 2029 and 2031. thats really not that terrible. and considering that bk made a deal with houston after the bridges trade, to get back their own FRPs, you know theyre going to be awful for years to come.

Man they need to stop this anti Julius shit man. There’s no real chemistry issues and he fits well with this squad. We need a second iso guy who can carry the load so Brunson doesn’t have to destroy his body trying to score 35 ppg. We were doing excellent last year before the injuries with both of them hovering around 25ppg but Brunson was the guy with the ball making the decisions in the 4th

Trade Randle? Doesn't fit? You need more than one shot creator to make a deep playoff run, Randle bully ball was creating a lot of the Knick offence pre injury. Furthermore, in the absence of ihart and with an injury prone Mitch, you really do need size, which Randle has. I don't understand why Randle gets so much slander. That 2021 run was arguably the reason the Knicks revival as a serious franchise started, and Brunson wouldn't have come here without that run

Yeah but the difference is they swapped out quickly and rj for og and divincenzo. Better defense and shooting. Last year we got straight up beat by the heat. This year despite injuries to Brunson, Robinson, Randle, divincenzo, and bogdonavic we went seven games almost to the conference finals. This year we’ve improved again. The likelihood of literally everyone being inside again is slight. We’re going to the eastern conference finals. I’m not a betting man but I’d bet on this.
