Coach Nick breaks down exactly what the issues are with the Timberwolves and Pacers defense - since they're letting Nikola Jokid and Jalen Brunson get whatever they want.

My answer; Aaron Gordon was bringing the ball up and also hitting 3s from the corners. Rudy cannot cover Gordon and others from three point line so, that moved Kat away from Jokic. Then Rudy guarded Jokic. Again, Gordon was the key to the change.
@fanfan9748
@fanfan9748 27 күн бұрын
Its because game 4 they left Aaron and dared him to shoot, which Aaron had a fantastic but anomaly game shooting 11/12 and 100% on 3 where his normal 3pt percentage is like 35%, and now Jokic is making a point that I am gonna murder Rudy on 1 on 1. I think it does take guts to insist putting KAT on Jokic after game 4, Aaron has been an X factor in these two years playoffs. also edit: its obvious that the coaches see more than us and Jokic insisting to take on Rudy 1 on 1 might also be bait next game. He is a couple of steps ahead of everyone.

@@fanfan9748 ; agreed that Gordon is the X factor. I didn’t thing Aaron was this good. He’s about as tall as Magic Johnson and brings the ball up like a point guard. The way Brunsen plays reminds me of the more mature DRose when he was with the wolves. When he had to stop playing above the rim and instead had to be crafty. I think that's why Thibs loves him so much. He's getting all the best he would have got from a prime, mature rose without the all the injury risk of leaping in the air all the time.

Coach Nick, Kat on Jokic works if Rudy stays in the paint. But if Gordon brings it up, it makes no sense for Rudy to pick him up as he is useless that high, but someone has to, and that leaves Rudy to cover a shooter all the way in the corner, which leaves Kat on an island with Jokic and Gordon with a smaller guy he can absolutely bully, and this situation WAAAAY different than one that worked in the 1st and 2nd game. Coach Malone wins this one.

KAT on Jokic only works better than Rudy on Jokic when Rudy can hover and help. But Gordon showed up in game 4, and before game 5 started ANT already said they weren’t gonna ignore Gordon like before. So do you expect Rudy to chase AG when he brought the ball up the court or stand in the corner? If so Jokic can destroy KAT 1v1 AS WELL AS getting him into foul trouble, while every other nuggets is also free to attack the paint. If not ag gonna keep shooting wide open shots. Yeah now it seems like the better option after Jokic destroyed them in game 5, but it didn’t seem like a great option when Gordon shot 10-11 in game 4. I don’t think it’s bad coaching, it’s about picking the poison.

Solution is simple, Naz Reid plays the Rudy role who can give you more on offense, guard 1-5 (insane defense on Murray this series) and can hang with Joker even 1 on 1 when he DOESN'T gamble They went away from what work in Game 2 and then made a bunch of rudimentary mistakes on guarding pick and rolls, basic basketball fundamentals and their shooting clip from the 3 declined

Good callouts coach. Carlisle blaming effort 🤦‍♂️ McConnell has been a bright spot for the Pacers. Alarming to see his low minutes. Nuggets swarming Edwards was inspiring to see. Pacers could do similar by clogging the lane with the longer guys (Nesmith, Toppin, Siakam) and leave TJ as the primary defender deterring JB's drives and jamming him off-ball. If you make Brunson a shooter, the game is far simpler.

Twolves tried KAT on Jokic but Rudy got abused instead as seen in Game 3 & 4. Basically, Aaron Gordon happened. If Rudy was not on Jokic but on Gordon, Nuggets make Gordon the playmaker (the Jokic clone), and now Rudy has to play on the perimeter and gets involved on screening actions. The screening actions a lot of times forced Rudy to switch on a shooter like KCP, which defeat the purpose of being a help defense if you are helping out of a shooter anyway. Not to mention all the mismatch it caused, with the TWolves defense strategy. Jaden full court pressuring the ballhandler which was Aaron Gordon forced him to be Gordon's defender(mismatch). Rudy then has to guard a shooter if he's not on Jokic because of that. In Game 5, KAT also keeps fouling Jokic early, so they made the switch earlier.

They began the series with Rudy in the paint and ignoring Gordon, they got kicked in the ass by Gordon in game 3 and 4 then. Moreover it is not like Jokic did a disaster without Gobert on him. He still scored a great 7/13 without Gobert on, took many fouls, and served many assist. I would ask you to watch what Denver did away from the ball with their shooter and that when Gobert was on Gordon how many open threes the Nuggets generated. I think you will see why you stick with Gobert on Jokic and pray it will work.

Jokic always has this problem, he is too "rational" in basketball sense, he will almost always seeking the most optimal way to end a possession, so if you can manipulate defense to make Jokic catch the ball in an area he has good vision to see teammates, he is very unlikely to attack directly there, it's quite counter intuitive to let one of the best passer in history to see the floor clear deliberately, it's a suicide logic, but it works, until Malone react by simple down their offense, instead of passes upon passes and complex running around, just screen and iso, like Melo used to do.

With Gobert guarding Gordon, it easily make space for other players to get going and Jokic knows that.

Dallas really made the biggest mistake by letting Brunson go. They could have traded/waived/ or release Luka and build around Brunson instead. This guy has been scoring 40+ multitple times in the playoffs.

They were exploiting weak side threes with PJ when they had gobert roaming... this is why they stopped. PJ washington absolutely destroyed the timberwolves nearly by himself... If PJ wasn't on fire, they'd continue letting weakside corner shoot but the role players were shooting lights out.

It seems like on the plays you showed Ant could have passed it to Rudy but didnt.

Ehhh not quite impressed by your assessment. You need to look deeper at jokic shot selections against who. As a defense, there must be a reason why Gobert was on the Joker.

Nah, I believe the REAL analysts over at TNT and other TV-media. They said the T-wolves just didn't play well. Nothing to do with coaching, players just need to play better. 'Nough said. 🙄

Coach, you HAVE to have seen Awful Coaching, right? Sam Kinison moonlighting as an NBA analyst? His repetition is educating a whole slew of us. I can hear him in my head watching these highlights w/ you. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrGagpSkt9rWqYk.html You HAVE to bring him on as a guest. He is hysterical.

Minnesota changed matchups cause gobert is guarding aaron gordon. If aaron gordon is in the bench, theres no way gobert can match up with denvers wing guys. Thats why they have no choice but to put him on jokic. KAT is more agile than gobert thats why he guards the wings. Cmon coach!

If AG is the x factor why coach change the line wht not put 3 bigs in the court next like in the 4th last Game ? With Jaden n Edwards ... This is the best counter ... Im with nuggets but i just wanna see how jokic counter this 3 bigs in one time ... Coz with naz reid he is not that bad in both ends as sisxth man of the year

Reminder to not gamble your money. Despite what the ads promise, you're always more likely to lose. Coach Nick got 4/5 picks wrong in the sleeper ad, and he knows way more ball than you. Sports betting is a gagillion dollar industry for a reason, they win and you lose.

If it's that simple for the Wolves to at least have a good chance and aren't, then they don't deserve to win.

Wolves too busy celebrating their first two wins and also complaining that Jamal wasn't suspended. And that refs are against them. And that the league wants Denver to win. And that giving Denver 3 days off was rigged

Wolves cant let gobert roam because aeron is the ball handler. Game 1 and 2 goberl matched up with him but when he went up high, gobert matched up with good shooters (MPJ or KCP) so he could not roam so comfortablely. U r the analyze and do not realize that:)))). Denver just better, stop yapping about the wolves
