This is why I like modern NBA basketball. It's more passing and switching and versatile players. These days, big men will bring up the ball and play at the top of the key and pass: not just hang out in the post all day and wait to receive a pass so they can play ISO. (And yeah, I know this play was used throughout NBA history, but it's more popular these days. And the quicker pace, better shooting, and more versatile players make it more effective to use.)

I feel like even though this has been around for most of basketball history, there are two things making more and more teams run version of this. The first is that players are just getting better at shooting 3s so you have to push out on defense, this makes more space and makes defenders have trouble getting through all the screens because they are tighter to their man. The second is the rise of more skilled big men. Even if they are not a threat to shoot I feel like more and more starting Cs and PFs can dribble and at least make good decision with the ball when making a pass. The fact that you can not completely sag off a big that can't shoot because of the other things he can do with the ball just further spreads your defense.

I watch a lot of these types of videos and this has never been called "Pistol". Pistol according to the masses was when the wing flipped it back to the guard for a baseline drive. This is just basic Rick Adelman's Corner Offense; some may even say it's Zoom Action. Pistol was ran a ton to get backside Hammer Action.

I'm a lifelong kentucky fan so I remember him being teammates with Bam Adebayo, Malik Monk, and dearon fox in that 2016-17 season. I always felt that Mulder had a lot to offer and honestly I wondered why he didnt go to a different school where he could shine more. He was a heck of a shooter (and athlete!) Lakers should have signed Kyle Korver. 😞😞😞 They have inconsistent 3-point shooters that can't handle that Early Offense Double-Staggered Pindown as a Catch & Shoot Play. Problem is the location of the Catch & Shoot off a Double Pindown Screen = slot area is a bad spot for Danny Green, who likes corner shots of Pistol Hammer Set Play that the Toronto Raptors love, but Lakers refuses to run for Danny Green.

If The Pelicans can run this consistently with Zion passing off to BI, they could become really good just because of how good BI can be with just a bit of space from deep, and how good of a screener Zion can be, or rolling off for the lob which will keep the defense guessing especially if there are many 3pt shooters.
@anthonycelestin3559
@anthonycelestin3559 4 жыл бұрын
I think the Pels are running more traditional post ups to Zion to not give him too much of a workload. All that offball action may cause wear & tear on his body. Zion isnt fat but hes overweight when it comes to the NBA, I think the Pels training staff are trying to find the ideal weight for his football player type frame. Keeping things simple is probably better for the developmental process for Zion. Add more sophisticated as he gains more experience

You can find a lot of videos of Coach Nick breaking down an offensive scheme where the team is down by a lot. They're meant to analyze the action's success if ran properly. Obviously no team is going to run one specific set for 48 minutes straight. You take what the defense gives you.
