I had also seen this switchover tonight with my parents. When I was little, there were only four channels to choose from and we still managed to stay entertained. Those few channels would switch off for the night... that was only a decade and a half ago! Time has moved on so fast! Although I haven't watched Analogue since the mid-90s when we fitted a satellite dish, I realise the benefits of analogue television, particularly during storms. RIP. Analogue. Truly an end of a wonderful era.

This is London, not Northern Ireland. There was a mistake in this kind of historic moment in British television. Instead of displaying and dubbing any BBC ident screen (such as the Clock Screen, Globe Screen, any plain slide with BBC One or BBC London logo, etc) for at least a minute after the credits (just like how closedown routines are done at late night), the continuity announcer on-duty gave his farewell message to analogue viewers in front of the mic while the closing credits of a show rolls. And the result, the endcard of closing credits (with BBC Northern Island logo) appeared as the "FINAL CLOSING IDENT" of BBC One London, and it also coincided with the announcer's say of "This is BBC One", followed immediately by going STATIC.

Or that the programme was produced by BBC Northern Ireland and that it aired on several BBC regions including London.

The programme was produced by BBC NI. They didn't do a full closedown because it's a network feed and different regions switched off on different days.

I watched the switchoff of every channel today.

I had hoped they would do an old fashioned National Anthem closedown for such an iconic event. But no, just an announcement then almost immediately static :(

You think they'd leave a caption up for a bit for the people who still hadn't got the message!
@abbycollins6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you know this after 5 years of this comment, but just in case, once analog transmitters shut off...thats it. They can't display messages or anything once they get rid of the signal, because they need a signal in order to display it. Simple.
