Eye opener for me! Never would have guessed a TF head would do that. Thanks for doing all this.

I would love to see what the same amount of porting to the TrickFlow heads would gain!! Great video and as always, thanks for the info!!!

It would be interesting what the Trick Flows would do with a 2.25 intake and some clean up. Might need a little more spring pressure also.

Hey, I got a set of cast iron heads. Will you weld them to a chain so can park my fishing boat? Just kidding I know they can be good, they take forever to port though. Great video again.

This is an excellent video. Basically the same engine is in my 79 Malibu with the AFR heads except the Perf RPM manifold. I have a couple degrees less on my cam. Gives me a great indication of what I may be making for power. I appreciate the time you invest. Thank you

Could that trail-off at the top of the Trick Flow heads’ curve be valve springs?

I'm not a BB guy but Fantastic work! It would be interesting to see what those Trick Flows would do with either a thoughtful clean-up or a valve change.

Great video. You can do a full port job on eldlebrock and they will flow with those.. they were made 20 years ago.behind the curve

on these aftermarket heads with raised exhaust ports, does that cause issues with off the shelf headers like Dougs/Hookers for a 2nd gen FBody? does it help with spark plug access as well? thinking about changing my pontiac to a bbc
@jeremymardlin538115 күн бұрын
The trickflow might have been due to slightly light valve springs or got into some spring resonance. It wasn't a normal looking nose over after peak.

Killer video brother, I wonder if valve styles may be coming into effect here?

Hey Eric, what do you think a set of ported brodix 270s would do on the 496 , like that set you did 3 years ago. Thank you
@jonathoncouchey715115 күн бұрын
Well, you can say i dont port cast iron in the beginning o of the video.

do you think there was a little valve float on those TFS heads by the way the just dropped

Hey eric, got a good tech question for ya, say you have a bbc head that has a runner size of 390cc's, however the port is raised .400.About how much volume do you think the raised runner is responsible for. In other words if the port were .400 lower how much volume would the port have? Im Trying to compare the flow numbers with some similar sized heads but its not apples to apples with port size bc of the raised runners. The head is a brodix bb5

Question: Hi Eric. Out of all the heads. Does by chance. The trickflow have the most stood up SSR?
@davidholcomb996115 күн бұрын
I like the Trick Flow torque curve. May not be the fastest down the strip, for street use up to 6000rpm, i'll take them. Cool Stuff.
@Torquemonster44015 күн бұрын
Only head that beats them on this list is the heads Eric ported by hand. Otherwise OOTB, the Trickflow's would definitely be fastest.
@rolandotillit286715 күн бұрын
It's definitely better for circle or road course, a flatter torque curve and linear power band is easier to modulate out of corners.
@Torquemonster44015 күн бұрын
@@rolandotillit2867 of all the heads shown here, Out Of The Box [OOTB] .. It's the best for drag racing too .

Nice testing and the bigger port you know people always say you loose low end torque well this test proved them wrong the bigger port on the trickflow over afr and other won low end torque. Even though promaxx was the biggest but won as well.
@FORCFED15 күн бұрын
Eric why do you think the TF heads made more at lower rpm range? Can't be flow by the looks . You think combination of chambers or runner designs? Great information sir 👍😎💪
@morganpowell299915 күн бұрын
Well I will say, the modern 96-00 Vortec big block 454’s only have 98cc size chambers with flat top pistons. That yields close to 9.5 to 1 compression. It’s hard to find a replacement bolt on head that yields the same CR. If you bolt a head on there with 110 cc chambers, even with the thinnest head gasket you’re lucky to get 8.5 to 1. I guess the only way around it is change pistons, but I was hoping to not pull through motor though.
@ekitching13 күн бұрын
Edelbrock makes a 100cc version of its oval port 290 head. Part #60499. The problem is you can't put too big of a cam in with the stock flat top pistons. The valve reliefs aren't big enough.
@morganpowell299913 күн бұрын
@@ekitching yea, he mentioned that in the video, and he said they were terrible for air flow. I guess it’s gonna be one of those things where you gotta change a bunch of stuff just to change the heads

Eric, you sure are investing a lot of money in what you are doing...
@hankclingingsmith870715 күн бұрын
When you sell heads do you check them out ? Or just ship them. Thx
@WeingartnerRacing15 күн бұрын
It depends on how much the customer wants to pay. It does cost extra to check them out. I do flow every head I sell though. So you do get an actual flow sheet for the heads you bought.

Id like to see someone shrink up that exhaust valve, make a larger intake
@joshuashuck399415 күн бұрын
I bet the TF chamber is reducing lower rpm reversion
@TomSmith-cv8hk14 күн бұрын
Bigger port and flows more air, more power. It's not a monster cam, WOT reversion would be over by 2500 odd and straight into pulling the mixture straight through.
@xlr8r3VA15 күн бұрын
Great video Eric! I wonder how the Trick Flows would flow with 100% bowl sizes, 91% throats and port matched? These are definitely great street heads. Have you ever flowed Dart Pro 1 Ovals or Chevrolet Performance 110 cc Ovals? I wonder how they would compare to this bunch.
@turboboy-oq6xe14 күн бұрын
Trick flow looks like it is losing control of the valve after 6100 rpm

I think an awesome series next you can do is on the ls engines. Personally i would want small block mopars. Or gen 3 hemi. But it would be even harder to "try" to break even
