Why wasn't this movie hyped up that much? I never heard anything of it until people were about Coco stealing the spotlight. I don't usually miss films this extensive. They worked so hard on it, it's a shame it didn't have more media attention at the time. Wish I had gotten to see it in theaters.

I saw this amazing film at the San Diego Museum of Art last Friday and the two artists who worked on it who did a Q&A afterwards verified everything said here, except they painted on Masonite to slow the drying time and make scraping away all that needed changing far easier. I also bought it in HD on Google Play Movies. Just incredible!!

Have just watched this on Netflix. Utterly bewitched. Sometimes the sheer beauty of the images made me forget to listen to the actors. However, this did not matter as the story has been kept simple, possibly to allow the imagery to speak for itself. At the end I was surprised at how emotional I felt. The utter loneliness of Van Gogh, the desperation to be accepted as an artist, was overwhelming. I was even more surprised when I felt a tear run down my cheek, the film had spoken to my own depression, thankfully now controlled. An incredible achievement.

Van Gogh saw and could paint was remarkable. At 3 feet away his paintings are holograms -- the spirals in Starry Night are later photographed by satellites and telescopes as galaxies -- that style of impressionism is still a very valid style for gifted artists

I think many people would say it would be a waste of time to hand paint so many frames, on the way to the cinema i felt that i would tire of the technique after a while as I am not a fan of animated movies, but I was gobsmacked by the beauty of this film. I am glad that I saw it on a large screen, as it may lose some effect on a TV for instance. I loved everything about this film, from the technique to the acting, storyline, opening and closing credits. A complete masterpiece, befitting of the great painter.

Doc about movie and no interview with the most important person in project - director? Great job BBC!
@johnd22206 жыл бұрын
You know, there is a trend recently to do interviews with the behind-the-scenes artists who seldom get any acknowledgment. The reason for this is a growing interest in the "art" of making a film. Don’t fret about the director(s) not being featured, I assure you THEY appreciate the promotion. AND, after all, they are the ones who will go home with an oscar…not any of the painters. And, with the time limit, I doubt they’ll be able to name the "talent" in their oscar acceptance speech. So let these artists enjoy their moment in the well deserved spot-light. OK?
@rra74906 жыл бұрын

The Oscars Animation award is just not the legitimate award people wanted. Yes it deserves a category, but the academy just doesn't have any respect for the medium. The only winners in the category are the movies their kids/grandkids drag them to, and you can rightfully presume that this movie wasn't seen by 80+% of the voters. And that's just one of the injustices this movie has. Seriously, fornicate that award until the academy actually does their job and watch every movie in every category. As a side note: while I do love the Disney Pixar movies, them winning that award almost every time grows stale.

Film na Oskara. Twój Vincent oprócz odtworzenia światła i orginalności malarstwa VIncenta Van G. , olbrzymiego nakładu pracy i zaangażowania wykonawców - malarzy i aktorów, ma jeszcze jedną zaletę. Film niemal mimochodem ukazuje uczucia. Miłość braterską i bezinteresowną. Przynajmniej w Katowicach.
