What the?!? I'm a long time Jacob listener, but I wasn't expecting that at all. Such variety and mixing of genres and styles. Great to see Take 6 up on stage with Jacob, one of his stylistic and sonic inspirations. Jacob's music transcends jazz or any one style, it's hard to put into words, best not try! Very enjoyable, can listen for hours...

@@SOPRATENOR I see what you mean - it could be there for a split second but there is an A and Bb and with some people copying the C that he is hitting, it sounds more like a Bbmaj9
@SOPRATENOR
@SOPRATENOR 5 жыл бұрын
Oh yes thank you my friend! With my speakers, I had not heard the A so I listened with a good headphones and indeed, there is, as you said, an A and a Bb. So, personally, I would call this chord (audience + Genius on the stage) a C13 (even if it misses the D) ... Or so C7/6 sus4 :) It's nice to talk with real musicians!
@jazzmanrp
@jazzmanrp 5 жыл бұрын
agreeing with Gus/Sopratenor: since this is the V chord in the musical phrase, I would have to go with C7/6 sus4. We jazz pianists would write this as a C7sus4 though, where the 6/13 would be implied as a color tone - but also as an arranger, I would describe it the way Sopratenor has it as well (or if this was a "pop tune" maybe Bbma7/C). And how exactly does one write a poly chord in figured bass? :-D I get the 3rd inversion notation (6:5), but how does one put that over C? LOL! Not that any of this silliness matters at all LOL! I just like talking to fellow musicians as well ;-)

+Mikiin ajijic Stevie was a virtuoso vocalist and harmonica player as well as being one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Collier is nowhere near Stevie Wonder's level of genius in those fields. kind of laughable actually that you would compare two completely different styles. Jacob is very good at what he does, but it has very little to do with what Stevie does.
@solstice871

dylan foley I don't think it's fair to compare two very different musicians in very different genres, with different styles. Both are legendary in their own right.
@drewper73
@drewper73 5 жыл бұрын
dylan foley Dude, you officially lost this debate the moment you typed the word “turd.” You also proved that you need to put in a lot more time listening to Stevie. “Modal interchange” is about the hardest thing he’s done.” Since when was it a competition to see who can execute the hardest thing musically speaking? I’m ecstatic about a musician like Jacob. He is one in a billion but until he will never ever touch the number of lives that Stevie has. Don’t forget, Stevie was signed to Motown records when he was 11!!! Oh, and I’m pretty sure that Stevie could give a deuce about closing the argument on dualistic vs. non-dualistic. Take a note: Too much talk about the math, science, and theory of music tends to take the fun out of it. Stevie not only sang those songs using his “expressive voice” he also wrote the music, those incredibly poetic lyrics, but in most cases he also played every instrument on any given song. I don’t want to sound like I’m against Jacob because I’m not. Even Jacob would tell you that you’re wrong about your opinions, and it would have nothing to do with him being humble. It would have everything to do with him telling the truth. Stay classy.

he is going to be the most lifechanging musician to ever grace the earth. Literally. I remembered when he said classical music was people just watching the music. he conducts the audience and it almost brought me to tears. He is a human, but by human standards he is the embodiment of music. And he uses his gifts for the greater good. The world can be changed by music and it might not change right now but, he is going to be talked about forever. In the best way possible. seriously, I never imagined myself almost coming to tears seeing him conduct the audience like that. I never look at him and wish I could be him, instead I see him as someone who is the most talented person in music we have ever seen who is using his talents to the fullest. And it makes me want to see what is my own fullest potential. Truly humbling even knowing his story and the stories he tells in his music. Wow. fucking blyme. I fucking love humans man. if the human brain is the biggest weapon of all. Then that makes ourselves our own worst enemy. strive for the greater good. like jacob.
