This is so annoying. We already know the causes. TMJ, dental work, acoustic trauma, eustachian tube dysfunction, stress, lifestyle, diet. The problem is a referal to an ENT looks into none of those things then sends people on their way for the rest of their lives convinced there are no treatment options available. It's left to individuals to explore how to resolve the problem on our own. These doctors need to be properly funded, retrained and to spend some time with sufferers and people who've reduced their T.

Sold my acoustic drum set October 16th of 97 because of tinnitus and hyperacusis. Drumming was my life and I've only heard silence once or twice in 25 years. The past few years I started plan electronic drums and working my way back to acoustic drums but I have to be extremely careful because it's annoying to be in pain from people's voices so I have to wear earplugs and play softly and only dream of being a drummer again.

I don't mind my Tinnitus that bad. I have had it for 35 years now and the sound is quite unique. I hear Crickets, like if you sit outside in the countryside of America at night and you hear thousands of crickets chirping. For years I thought that was all it was until I moved to Europe to a place with no crickets. Now I realize that the crickets are in my head. I am use to living in the countryside so it is nice to fall asleep listening to crickets anywhere in the world.

I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember - probably 60 years now. Mine is a high-pitched squeal. At first, as a child, I thought it was "the sound the earth makes". Then, as a young adult, I found out it's actually a condition in my ears. The one time (many years ago now) I did enquire with the NHS, I was told something along the lines of "Get back to us if it starts to keep you awake at night". It never has, so I'm probably one of the lucky ones. My Mother told me that as a very young child I had a bad case of mumps and she was told at the time that it would probably affect my hearing - so maybe that's when it started.

@@TMinus-Tinnitus-Wellness Thank you! I know. But medicine is too slow. I had to make several researches on my own to create a way to deal with it -- and I went to several doctors until I found one that truly helped me. Most of doctors can only say is that "there is nothing to be done", but there are plenty of things to be done, like meditation, silence, stretching, soft music, sounds closer to the one we hear but with some kind of melody, warm bags, physical therapy for the head, shoulders, neck... also reducing the stress, proper quantity of water, restriction of certain groups of food and even medication. I do all of these things to make my life better (and it is important to say that in my case tinnitus is related to meniére disease, so I have way more symptoms than the noise -- some really bad).

Thanks for sharing @Chris. 8 is so young, do you know what caused it? How do you manage your musical hallucinations best?
@chris7921

@@TMinus-Tinnitus-Wellness I had a hole in my eardrum, which the ENT said would heal has I grew up, never needed ear grommets or anything like that, I was just told to keep water out of my ears. But if I’m honest I have neglected my ears over the years with loud music and clubs and such. So I have worsened the condition over time through my own doing, and I have hearing loss in the ear where I originally had my tinnitus. When I first experienced musical hallucinations, I thought I was going insane, I heard a particular Christmas song and assumed it was playing somewhere in the house one night, the same lyric going over and over, searched everywhere in the house thinking a radio was playing it and then I realised the music was coming from my head, certain sounds like fan generators and Vacuum cleaners amplified the music so it sounded very crisp and clear and it was extremely frightening. I took myself to A&A and had a medical evaluation, I was asked a number of questions to rule out any psychosis or schizophrenia. For a few weeks I tried my best to mask the song I could hear which tv and music from the radio but like I said before there were sounds that amplified it. It’s something that has come and gone through the years ever since I first had the musical hallucinations since the year 2000. I tend to notice it when I’m very tired, on any medications especially sleeping tablets or diazepam, and when I’m under stress, and strangely enough I can pick up other songs that might sound similar to the song lyric I hear. I don’t actually hear a whole song, I just hear the lyric of a song going over and over. Really I’d like more research done on my part on this condition as all though it is classed as musical hallucinations, most people with hallucinations are old and can hear full songs, rather than just lyrics going over and over.

@@TMinus-Tinnitus-WellnessThe musical hallucinations seem to come on when I have high anxiety, so it’s about keeping myself happy and calm, but listening to music on low and other musical sounds help. You see I don’t just hear different songs, I hear a particular Christmas song over and over like it’s a broken record, many people who have this condition often hear old rhymes or Christmas songs, it’s such a bizarre condition, it’s also known as musical ear syndrome or audio pareidolia, with the latter, people will hear certain sounds like singing or talking when they are around white noise like funning fans or engines, running water or machinery

Your a pioneer in a wilderness so please keep going as ENT & GP' don't actually know a great deal & offer little advice or support. I've had Tinnitus for about 5 years now & it's recently escalated to a new sharper, metallic like frequency. Not all the time, but when I eat it can feel like chewing polystyrene! Sound therapy helps a lot, but I'm now having to search out a new audio as the frequency has changed I think I actually have hyperacusis as sounds from everyday things can sound sharp & loud. Habituation takes time, but sound therapy seems the way forward. Thank you for the help & research you are doing. Whoever finds a cure deserves 'a noble peace prize' as that is what it would bring to my ear!

I have had tinnitus for 13 years. All the sounds have changed over the years. I now have what sounds like loud white noise and pulsatile tinnitus which sounds like sawing wood. Scans showed nothing and the NHS just sent me on my way. I habituated tinnitus once but pulsatile is very hard to mask. I now have a fan on every night and listen to an audio book. Unfortunately there is no cure.

I had Tinnitus for 4 years, I was desperate, and decided to take matters into my own hands, I defeated Tinnituus to a point, not completely I may add, but it became much quieter, first thing I did was cut out sugar for 2 weeks, if infection was a possible cause, which results in inflammation, infection thrives on sugar, if Tinnitus diminishes to a degree after you cut it out, you have some indication, if it continues try detoxing your kidneys as they are connected to the ears or at least the meridians are. even a gum infection can be a probable cause and may not present any symptoms, lower back pain can also be the result of a gum infection.
