Tv was fantastic then .. 321 . Generation game . You bet ... strike it lucky .. the price is right. Play your cards right ... telly addicts... bobs full house... celebrity square's.. name that tune . These were the great tv shows. Now you have crap like x factor.. singing programs dance programs .

I always wanted to see this episode with Captain Tom as it was mentioned in the news and documentaries about him that he was a contestant on the show. Incidentally, it was also Terry Wogan's last Blankety Blank.

I went through Tipps End the other day as I live nearby in March Cambridgeshire (wonky Christmas tree town) where Tom worked in the 1980s

Loved Blankety Blank from this era it was unrestrained anarchy and Terry was perfect for the host it all went downhill after him but Dawson was pretty good.

Captain Tom a pretty bland forgettable guest on here. The other contestant, Louise, was far more interesting.

I agree although to be fair he’s the contestant we see least of, as he’s not in a tiebreak or Supermatch… and the edit obviously favours the later part of the show as there’s more anarchy as the recording progresses.

He wasn’t really asked great questions. Wogan could sometimes be lazy and just rely on his natural charm and not bother finding out about guests. If he knew his past perhaps he could have asked something relevant.

It’s a pity the joke credits are in that weird cyan colour and horizontal slide that makes them so difficult to read, anyone with a portable TV would have no chance.

This is so predictable when you watch it now. Les Dawson was the best followed by Wogan. Lily Savage wasnt that bad but nothing compared to Les Dawson.Roy K saying "You should have said Cheetah" for obvious reasons 🙂
