I always thought of the Galapagos Island as a far away retreat. An island unspoiled and virginal. Just read about 4-5 weeks ago, that the Chinese have taken it upon themselves to fish right off the island shore. That really hurts the local fishermen that go out in their rowboat, whereas the Chinese are there with a huge fishing ships! It's sad that this little piece of heaven is now getting spoiled... breaks my heart. 💔
@bumpedhishead636
@bumpedhishead636 3 жыл бұрын
IMHO, both the Chinese AND the "local fishermen" should get the hell off that island. We have a whole planet to live on, can't we give the tortoises a couple of tiny islands of their own? Why do humans have to live EVERYWHERE??

There is no god, this universe was not made to be understood, lifes a miracle and the fact that any being or combination of beings was able to develop basic sensory organs enough to not only understand but try and categorize everything around them in the pursuit of a greater collective knowledge is incredible and seeing as they are surrounded by lesser beings it only makes sense they see themselves gods rather than the invasive parasite they are

@Clarence Kayser Eh well the tracking devices help give them information about where they’re going and, if the die, they can investigate how and where the death happened. These tortoises lived in isolation, and now that humans introduced other invasive species, they’re being outcompeted. So really all the information they can get to help the tortoises is going to be useful because they’re not going to survive well without human intervention at this point.

Beautiful tortoises and hatchlings. So much of the islands have been built for tourists. I seen a picture of part of the island with settlements built all over, maybe even with families. Children often get curious and explore-bad idea about the homes there..I don't understand why the government there is allowing this. The islands should be kept as pristine as possible so I hope the Galapagos islands are given much more respect that the rainforests of South America..

Funny to see the babies move around like maniacs. My Tortoise also gets a lot more active outside, even though it's not that hot where I live (I have a Russian Tortoise, so they're more resistent to colder temperatures, unlike for example a Galapagos Tortoise would). I think it's terribly cruel to let a creature that may live well over 70-80 years live in an inside enclosure with artifical walls and very limited space for its entire life.

as a tortoise lover and keeper I can tell you that bigg ass radio transmitter on that poor babys back is going to restrict a lot of movement. they often crawl into spaces barely bigger than thier shells but I guess we have to understand thier behaviour better to be able to guarantee thier survival. Tortoises are one of the nicest and gentle creatures out there and most pet retail stores have no idea how to keep them. Very sad to see.
