पाकिस्तान के पहले तानाशाह अयूब ख़ाँ की तरह जनरल ज़िया उल हक़ के पास सत्ता पर काबिज़ होने का कोई 'ब्लू प्रिंट' नहीं था. दरअसल, ज़ुल्फ़िकार अली भुट्टो के कुछ ग़लत फ़ैसलों और पाकिस्तान नेशनल अलायंस के नेताओं के बढ़ावा देने की वजह से सत्ता उन्हें एक तरह से तश्तरी पर रख कर दे दी गई थी. लेकिन एक बार सत्ता का स्वाद चख लेने के बाद जनरल ज़िया ने अपने प्रतिद्वंदियों को मात देने की जो क्षमता दिखाई, उसके उदाहरण बहुत कम मिलते हैं.

I am not religious but must say that Zia UL HAGEA did get his punishment soon afterwards. First of all you never execute a Prime Minister but if necessary then only by an independent court and not one under pressure by appointing ""Judges"" who have old scores to settle old scores with an accused person. He was calling judges to ask what opinion they had about the final verdict.

By manipulating the ""Judiciary""and forcing it to hand the death sentence on charismatiic Bhutto was also hs own impending death warrant. It seems there is a higher power upstairs in the skies. Zia suffered from the fact that Bhutto chose him by jumping over 6 senior generals as Bhutto mistakingly thought him to be a dull, religiousl man. That was his biggest mistake as no other general would have hanged him on trumped up uproven beyond doubt charges..
