I was 13 years old when this happened. I was in Manila but had to stay at home because of the typhoon. Classes were cancelled. I never really liked watching news but yalanda in tacloban has been all over the news all day. I was really terrified when I saw a man hopelessly carrying his dead little girl and behind him was a massive havoc. Now I just knew, this won't ever happen again. We've got a government that has been doing everything for our sake. God bless my beloved country Philippines. We are moving forward

I can't help but to cry i can't hold my tears anymore remembering those exact moment day after day that i am fighting to live.during typhoon while im struggling i knew i am going to die anymoment maybe by water drown by water maybe some flying stuff could hit me or i will die because of too much cold, coz that time i am badly shivering i cant move my feet and jaw anymore ,i cant see anything arround me because evrything is dark and foggy due to too much rain and wind.you have to keep your eyes close to protect your eyes not to be hit by rain also the ears if i dont cover my ears i would be deaf.that time i dont see anyone i thought everyone is dead already i can do nothing but to cry,shout and i pray that if this is my last breath Lord please dont make me suffer long.the suffering that ive been through since i was a kid was tripple after typhoon .had to stop studying .truthfully speaking "one piece of rice is like a gold for me that time we can eat 2 spoon only once in 2 weeks .we eat banana ,coconut,root crops etc.that time..until now i have trauma of heavy rain,or wind thats why i cant forget that moment

Can't believe that this is the damage of the typhoon in Tacloban that day, since I was in Cebu at the time of the typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan... We are also affected, but not much as Tacloban. Thankfully, our relatives there were safe and sound. Then we experienced Typhoon Odette years after and the winds was like Yolanda, sans the storm surge... Now, I am in Tacloban City for my schooling, and I already see that the city was recovering after years. But still, Tacloban City may have recovered physically, but the emotional damage the typhoon carries remained.

More than 10,000 died. The govt (at that time) didnt do much about it to give support & help to the people. Even the international donations were being held up by the govt. they were not distributed to the victims. That was the govt before.The next president after that, continued the help & housing to the victims, only then they were able to get the real support from the govt.

The heck you’re talking about? Our President today, Duterte, is even WORSE than the the previous one. He’s not even doing anything for the victims of Typhoon Odette. OUR COUNTRYMEN ARE LITERALLY DYING THERE TILL NOW. And they’re not getting any help at all. That stupid and demonic president (Duterte) even shut down ABS CBN, which happens to be the ONLY NEWS OUTLET that has REGIONAL COVERAGE, just because of personal matters. And now, because of his selfishness, NOBODY CAN REACH this areas. And we don’t even have any idea on how bad they’re situation is right now. You have to remember that compared to Yolanda, Typhoon Odette hit a lot more areas. And so the need of the local news outlet (ABS CBN). STOP YOUR HALLUCINATIONS WITH DUTERTE. AQUINO AND HIM ARE JUST LITERALLY HEARTLESS WHEN IT COMES TO THE POOR. Sadly, we Filipinos will still have to endure this type of leadership. I really pray that one day you can open your mind and heart. That instead of patronizing an individual, you’ll start loving your own fellow countrymen.

One of the main cause of this disaster is the lack of understanding of the words “storm surge”. Reporters and the government did not explain what it means and the possible effect thereof to the people on areas where typhoon Haiyan will go through. Even an educated person like me did not really know what it means until the aftermath of the typhoon!
@antdx316

Even if people "knew" it's not like they can Elite-level fly away. They live there. It's a true luxury to escape areas and survive and thrive in other parts of the world instead of being locked down in certain areas. I always can't help but think whether or not people entered a better afterlife, not just from this of course but for Any dying reason. People can only do "so much" in life that what seems to be the "worst" could ultimately be "the best".
@realistnoypi9356
@realistnoypi9356 2 жыл бұрын
@@antdx316 If they did know what the words mean then most of them would not have gone to shelters that are just several meters away or directly beside a shore. A lot of people died when they stayed in a dome arena built on or almost directly beside the shore. Some stayed in school turned shelter before and/or during the typhoon and most of them died because it was also near the shore. I’ve gone to Tacloban once and damn, most deaths could have been avoided if they knew what a storm surge means. So, what I mean is that a lot of victims could have at least avoided tragedy if they know that a storm surge would actually result to a mini-tsunami, as some people calls it, and act accordingly based on that information. By the way, Tacloban is a very good city and in Philippine standard, prosperous. Whenever I’m there, I feel like it is in some part of the National Capital Region but cleaner and with less pollution.

That's the official "known" count. The actual death toll that the government and people doesn't know, is said to be beyond 10,000.

Obviously an understated number to save face. There were even rumors back then that they were doing it so all donations would have to go through the national government and independent orgs can’t do it themselves...

I mean, I used to say this all the time but not in this scenario. The whole city was literally wiped out and none of them were completely safe from the storm.. it’s like they had nowhere else to go tbh.

Its their first time to experienced the Super typhoon. So they don't know what to do. Some people didn't listen. I've heard one time in tacloban "madalas daw ang bagyo ay hindi naglalandfall sa leyte dahil nag iiba lagi ng direction dahil tinatakloban daw ang lugar nila" in other word tinatakpan or cover, guarding their place. Tacloban comes from the word taklob or takpan, If I am not mistaken. Correct me If I'm wrong. So when the typhoon landfall they are all shocked of what happened and they are all traumatized by typhoon haiyan.
