The biggest issue here, is something most young men deal with in the UK, including myself, that all social events revolve around alcohol for men our age. I dont think John is an alcoholic, but he either has to completely separate himself from all his friends, or just meet them in the pub, at a house party. Like his mates aren't going to go for a walk with him in the park, or get a coffee. Its a big issue for young men

100% right. I have the same issue. All my friends do is drink whenever we meet up. It’s never been anything else for years. I don’t even remember doing anything else with my mates ever other than drinking. I don’t hang around with them anymore, for those exact reasons... but you nailed it on the head.

It has a lot to do with genetics, hence why you had a family of alcoholics. You have to think about it the same as you would any inherited condition. A lot of mental illness gets passed down between generations.. same with addiction. It's not all just someone choosing to drink, goes deeper than that.

Trauma of loosing a pound at the slots, so you gotta spend the rest of your life stroking that button. Or trauma of having such a good time on booze and drugs you cant stop taking them. Some start binge eating, doing booze because of trauma, but not most. I was addicted but not because of trauma, although trauma can be a factor for many.

@@assasin19991999 Why did you start though ? Doesn't need to be something nutty. Some people get affected by things you would deem "small issues" like height, masculinity, Fitting in, bullying, intelligence. Maybe his dad or maybe his mum. Perhaps loosing a friend or a long lost girl friend. So many things make drug addition that many would degrade or say "it's not an issue" but to some, it's the worst thing to happen to them.

For me, addiction was caused by trauma of violence and neglect in the house. It's the only thing that made me feel love & free from pain. It definitely made me look at addict's differently in my adulthood. Not saying I condone the behavior, but I have sympathy.

@@ChopSquadBaby I agree. I had sugar addition from a young age. Used to steal money to buy sweets and things. That then, in later life, turned into cigarettes, cannabis and sex/porn addition. most of which I still really struggle with. Been in a really toxic, nasty relationship for the last 6 and half years aswell. I think, getting out of negative situations and into reality is the only way out of these things. Looking at others who aren't the same as thinking "Why dont they have the same issues" is the only way to free yourself from this prison cycle

To be old and wise you have to be young and stupid first. This chap is not a bad person but he has a lot of learning to do. It's unfortunate how something drastic has to happen for people in general to understand the lessons and I fear this will be the only route for him to see. Its sad but it's clear what will happen. If he doesn't get a hold of the reins of his life quickly this IS what will happen. His partner will get fed up and in fear of his actions rubbing off on their child she will leave him. He will turn to drink and drugs to suppress his loss. This will lead him on a further downward spiral and I see him getting into further trouble with the law. But with these lessons comes growth and spiritual awakening. This is not set in stone and he has the opportunity to grow without the need of the drastic event to occur to trigger the growth. Either way he will grow but it's up to him to choose the method of his journey.

They do this here in the states & I’ve seen people beat these things by squeezing a piece of thick plastic bag in between the skin & the box on your leg & they leave it on for a few days after drinking so that way the courts can’t tell you’ve been drinking . I’ve even seen people cut these things off by bypassing the wire that’s inside of the strap by carefully cutting the plastic off exposing the wires inside just to reconnect them with another wire with alligator clips before cutting the main wires so you can slip it off your leg , this makes it so there’s always a connection in the signal to the wires . I’ve seen it done no joke . It’s crazy to see how people can beat the system .

Unfortunately he is never going to change. His mum seems like a lovely woman but she basically is letting him get away with it. He goes out drinking and she says ‘I’m absolutely fuming.’ She needs to kick him out her flat, force him to sort himself out and put his money into actually getting something sorted for his gf and kid. His gf needs to do the same. ‘He’s working on his dad skills,’ pathetic. Again she should have nothing to do with him until he’s sorting out his own place. His dad is also clearly a bad influence. I truly believe a solution to cases like this would be to ban him from going within say 5 miles of Rhyl. Keep him away from all the bad influences and enablers in his life. Dump him somewhere new, makes him start from scratch.
