I been looking and finally came across to your blog and glad i found it. I believe and agree it’s a pretty big job especially when u have to bring down the sub-frame. It’s necessary to do proper cleaning on the component for replacement. It’s the right way to do it. Knowledge, basic skills and confidence equates to your saving of $4500 which I am looking forward as well to do on my manual tranny as I’m about to hit 170K mileage. Yes I would treat my fellow friends also for letting me have a free lift for the day as well on my free lessons as apprentice on my local repair shop here in central Cali. 5 ⭐️ & exceptional DIY work 🔧🔩🪛💰🙂

You could also use an engine fixture holding bar and it would keep the engine in place while you work on the rest pretty cool way to go.

Back when I was younger I used to do them at people's houses mobile mechanic style....you get 4 large jack stands to put the car on high enough.... and a engine hoist and low profile dolly to slide the engine and trans out....the cherry picker would lower the engine/trans down on dolly and out they came.....not doing it like that anymore....LOL!

With that kind of savings, I wonder if there are places to rent lift time. Plus the specialty jacks, engine supports, etc. Would also need the factory instructions to remove and replace transmission. Repair shops should rent time on Sunday when they are closed.

You are Lucky with a friend like this, CVT transmissions suck. That’s all I can say. It’s a mistake putting any other fluid other then genuine Honda fluid.

Did you happen to notice a steady clicking noise while your foot was on the gas for a while leading up to the blown transmission? I have been noticing a steady clicking noise from my 2013 accord sport for some time now while my foot is on the gas. I have taken it to 2 mechanics and both said the noise may be coming from the transmission but that I would need to take it to a transmission specialist to have it taken apart. I'm seeing all sorts of different possibilities on different forums. Just don't want to take it to a transmission specialist and pay for that with no strong chance of a resolution

Man, that sucks, good you had a buddy with a lift and was willing to give you the time...Also is disheartening that it failed that early, smh.. I have two identical 2013 lx's only 3 numbers apart. One has 167k the other 147k and I am VERY hard on both of the tranny's, manual down shifting and running it out etc when passing. They run like champs and have plenty of pull. My normal highway speed is 85mph, and then down shifting and passing up to 120 at times... Guess I better knock it off, lol. Maybe the 2013/14 "type ones" are "better"... Wish me luck

Thanks for your insight. I could have imagined doing this with a mere transmission jack while putting my car on ramps, but now I see that a lift would be needed maybe. Scotty Kilmer says that the 2015 transmission was problematic and that the 2016 transmission was the point at which Honda really had a CVT. My 2015 transmission is good but I cannot tell what kind of odorless fluid accumulates beneath it. It seems like water but also seems oily. Don’t know why water would accumulate underneath the transmission. Does the fluid for this transmission stink like other fluids?

I'm almost there. At the point where I'm taking out the subframe. Did you have to remove the starter?

I bought a 2015 Honda from dealership 6months ago with 55000miles. Drove less then 10000miles since and my transmission gave in. I towed my car back to dealership and was told with my mechanical failure warranty the replacement of transmission is covered. 1week later I get a message that in order to complete this they have to replace engine wire harness that is not covered and will cost me close to 3000$. Is this even possible? Had zero issues with engine whatsoever and not even understand what it has to do with my transmission failure. Are they right to charge me for that?

I would ONLY use Honda's Transmission fluid.

Just because it took him doesnt mean that's what it should be for everyone else. They have access to things he might not have. Maybe the honda techs have a shop manual that shows a more efficient way of doing the job 🤷🏾‍♂️
