How to remove and replace the BCM (body control module) on a 2003 to 2010 Nissan Micra K12. The BCM is responsible for monitoring and controlling various electronic accessories in a vehicle's body. In a car the BCM typically controls the power windows, power mirrors, air conditioning, immobilizer system, central locking, etc. If your BCM begins to malfunction, you will notice a negative effect on the operation of the various parts that the BCM commands and it’s likely that you’ll experience one or more of the following symptoms:
1. Repeated Battery Drain
One of the most common symptoms associated with BCM failure is repeated, excessive battery drain, also known as a parasitic draw. While a certain amount of parasitic draw is permissible, excessive draw caused by a BCM fault can drain a battery in hours. This draw can occur when a BCM continues to supply power to a particular accessory at incorrect times.
2. Erratic Electrical Function
A faulty BCM can also cause intermittent operation of various electrical functions, such as a vehicle’s wipers, lights, and horn. Erratic, sweeping instrument cluster dials are also a sign of BCM failure, as is irregular door lock and radio operation. The issues are more likely to be caused by a faulty BCM when more than one of these symptoms are present at any given time.
3. Security System Problems
In nearly every instance, a vehicle’s security system is operated by the BCM. Therefore, it is easy to assume that consistent, yet unusual issues associated with a vehicle’s security system, are caused by a failing or faulty BCM. This could also include problems with a vehicle’s keyless-entry or passive-entry functions.
4. Dash Warning Lights
A faulty BCM can cause havoc with a vehicle’s instrument cluster. An otherwise normal dash display can suddenly be illuminated like a Christmas tree. This occurs when a BCM is unable to communicate with one more of a vehicle’s additional control modules, such as the transmission control module, powertrain control module, or airbag control module.
5. Failure To Start
A non-functioning or faulty BCM can also prevent a vehicle from starting at all, in certain cases. Although rare, a bad BCM can fail to identify the key’s transponder chip, or can simply fail to deliver a start signal from a vehicle’s ignition switch, thereby preventing starter engagement. A lack of communication by the BCM with other corresponding control modules can also lead to starting difficulties. Thanks for watching. Please comment, like and subscribe !.
