Thank you. The 117 really impressed me on this challenge. I had the option to use a saw but chose to use the 117 exclusively. In total I spent more than six hours on that challenge and most of that was using the 117 in the place of the proper tool. It performed very well.

I wasn't too sure at the time. The first fire really tested my resolve. Luckily a spark finally caught.

At least six hours worth of prep.. some of that was not knowing how much I'd need to get three fires going. The rest was the enjoyment I got using the 117. Fun challenge. A lot of room for improvement.

Based on what I've seen in your videos I'd say you are highly skilled using your gear.

@@kirbycreekmo I learned during the pandemic from watching guys like you, I found a dormant interest in the outdoors watching bug out bag videos and then gradually found Bushcraft videos and then survival. I went outdoor gear crazy during the pandemic because I realized I wasn’t prepared.

@@kirbycreekmo 😂👍I just learned a lot of knife skills from this video. I was in Boy Scouts and did a short stint in the 10th Mountain Division, infantry, but I haven’t been in the outdoors for well over 30 years. Most of what I learned 30 years ago I don’t even remember. The pandemic brought a desire to reacquaint myself to myself to the outdoors. The one thing I do remember from the 10th mountain division was how to dress for cold weather, and how to sleep on the ground in cold weather. I learned a lot from watching Dave, Canterbury, Shawn Kelly corporal’s corner and Josh Enyart the gray bearded Green Beret during the three years of the pandemic. Andrew of Ranger, Fieldcraft and Survival was also one of the ones I watch for three years. I got a three-year education during the pandemic watching these four guys over and over and over.

LOL! I'm not sure if subconsciously I wanted to may my schemagh into a hoodless poncho or if I was trying to say 'that's all folks.'

The spine is as issued, no mods. Some consideration is being given to modding the guard. It's less cumbersome than the guard on the 119 but still larger than it needs to be. Thanks to your example I am much more open to customizing tools I use to better suit needs.

Is that sort of knife allowed in Germany? The 117 is part of the catalog here, though its popularity has made them more difficult to come by. I would expect production will eventually meet demand. Fantastic little knife.

@@kirbycreekmo Possession is allowed with us, unfortunately there is no importer for the knife.

The ferro-rod residue cleans up easily with soap and water or oil. It usually doesn't get that bad but I struggled that day. After the first one took so long I had my doubts I'd be able to get the next to lit. Some of the other guys are getting it done in less than half the time. More practice is needed. It's been a while and it appears to be a perishable skill, at least for me it is. Plenty of room for improvement.

@@kirbycreekmo I haven’t used a ferro rod with a blade that isn’t coated yet. Glad your 117 cleaned up easy.

@@kniceslice780 Yup, just a little Balistol or Dawn soap and it wipes right off.
