I lived in a town called Carrollton GA just outside Atlanta. And this song came out right after my sons mom and I divorced. So I literally had to take that highway 20 ride to pick him up! Thankfully I finally got custody of him a few years later and didn't have to make that ride anymore!

Songs beautiful. The courage it takes for a man to push through the pain, so you can try to be a father to your child. You can literally hear the emotion in Zac's voice and tell he's singing from the soul. Need more music like this.

Incorrect....originated songwriter from Wyatt Durrette and the story about dropping off his son
@cegator23
@cegator23 4 жыл бұрын
@@parkeradams5942 He's not completely wrong. Durrette started the song based on his situation (and that's where the Hwy 20 part came from). But, he and Zac ended up working together to finish the song. And, it also drew from Zach's experience as a son that went through the same thing.

This song just hits different for me. My parents divorced when I was 9 and I remember the rides between moms and dads house every other Friday. Both my parents are gone now, and I miss them terribly. My dad died first of leukemia. Mom died two years ago. They were the best parents two kids could ask for. This was a tough thing for my dad, as he didn't want to get divorced. My mom dud. She had her reasons. I was heartbroken for a long time. My brother was too young to remember it but I do. They remained close friends, and both were always there when needed them but I know my dad was heartbroken for years over this too. She was his everything.

I have an aunt and uncle who married at 18 and had my cousin. 2 years later they split when they both realized they weren't right for each other, but they still remained close friends and she still was invited to all the family gatherings. It still amazes me how close they remained after the divorce and it wasn't even for my cousin that they remained close, they never fought and never had anything but good things to say about the other. When my aunt remarried, we were all invited to the wedding because even though they were divorced, we were all still a part of her family. My uncle and my aunts husband became good friends as well. After losing my uncle about 5 years ago, we still see my aunt (she'll always be my aunt) at almost every gathering.

My favorite Zac Brown song. I heard it years ago when I was going through the same thing. I would drive to pick up my son and drop him off. I did that from when he was 5 to 18! So this song is real for a lot of guys. To those of us who didn't run from our kids lives. The part where he says it was the pleasure of my life gets me every time. Because being there for my son was and is the pleasure of my life.

You don't give up, you realize that relationships are NOT 50‐50... sometimes it may even be 90-10! Yet, you always remember what made you love each other and strive to recover those feelings.

Everytime I heard this song I tried to understand my Dad in his situation. My mom divorced him when me and my brother were 8. He was on the road for 5 years and 9 months. He finally came home in June from driving over the road to stay and not go back out. Last summer I went out on the road with him for 2.5 weeks. When we came across the Florida state line I finally knew how he felt. Being gone for so long at times it's hard not to miss your family especially your kids.

This came out about the time my ex moved about 6 hours away with our son. I had my own hwy 20 drive down 69/75 and used to play this on the way home every time... basically to torture myself, but also make sure I could still feel and knew it was for the best. Thankfully, they moved back close a couple years ago... but I'll never forget that pain that this song captures so well.

I am a dad who took that ride for many years, and unfortunately, I was always on the losing end of getting to see my son every other Friday. My son has carried that burden that I intentionally missed those weekends because his mother told him that I called and told her that I wasn't going to make it. I was in the military at the time so my son assumed at that time that I was placing my priorities elsewhere but to him. Now that he is a grown man, he is having troubles of his own and I have to pick up the pieces of what his mother shattered, and yes I have every damn right to say that, and try to make a gentleman out of what she couldn't make of him. There isn't a day that I don't think about those rides from Killeen, TX, and Lawton, OK to a halfway point to get my son, and I was told on a phone call that I wasn't going to have my son for that time. It would kill me, but the state of Texas made sure that my support for him was paid, but my visitations weren't needed to be honored by his mother. This song strikes a chord in me and will always strike a chord in me and wonder if she had kept to her end of the decree and if my son would have been a different man than he is now.

True story bro, I got out of prison (4yrs) to a beautiful daughter of 8, I would drive 2hours to spend 30 minutes with her, and truth be told, I would have done it for one single minute with her. The happy ending in my case is that we now live together my dreams have been realised. The song "Highway 20 ride" gave much strength through the process, I'll never forget Zach Browb for his contribution for my happiness.

I'm a 1960's baby. My parents should have gotten divorced but stayed together until we were all out of school because that's how it was back then. I was the middle child. Dad favored my older sister, mom favored my younger brother. A lot of useless arguing back and forth mostly from mom. I ended up with a hard don't give a shit atitude. Moms used to use the guilt trip stuff alot. So guess what? Still takes a lot to make me feel guilty.

This song tears me apart. I have to leave constantly to go for business. Military. And the mom and I have fallen way apart and divorce. But, my boys are my heart. Especially when my youngest begs me to not leave. It rips your heart to pieces. And it takes a strong soul to live it. I do hope you realize, though, that the moms aren’t always the damn victims. As one who can talk, it isn’t the case. Sometimes dads are the victims here.

In all fairness, the FIRST time or two you hear this song, you absorb the great TUNE, but not so much the WORDS. When you put the words to meaning, it chokes you up. Kind of like Piano Man by Billy Joel: The tune is benign, but when you listen to the words, it tells a very sad story. I admit, what attracted me to Highway 20 Ride, was the ENDING: "Oh oh ohhh oh oh oh oh oh!"

Ahead and a 1000 mi. behind ride driving over the road.They needed that check.My son needed the time.35 years and 3.5 million miles later.I’ve been married to a incredible woman who raised my other son with a rare form of cerebral palsy and two sisters. My Ex couldn’t live that life.Villanized me. I could never make a promise I could keep. Sp. needs child needed time and money.8 times in. NICU one month with seizures that almost killed him and on and on. I gave up rights so his step father could raise him. Wanna judge me ok. No one will be harder on me than me. I’ve sat in hospitals and Ronald McDonald houses longer than I care for till I had enough seniority to get a local job.Maybe give us a small break. Listen to the songs words.

My mother took guardianship of my 3 girls without my consent I don't have money for a lawyer but I am jumping through all the ropes they are having me do. I will do whatever I need to just to be in my kid's lives. It's been 4 years but I go back after 4 years I will be getting my girls back when they go on Christmas break as not to interup the first half of the school year. As always I love your videos and love seeing you just blowing up

You gotta get on Zac Brown Band - Overnight ft. Trombone Shorty. It’s not radio popular but it’s fun! A damn good country band hitting you with the unexpected. R&B/Jazz. Careful tho, might mess around and make a baby!
