The reason why cheaple is so low poly is because he's usually seen in scenes where you can't access or see close. The model was used to save memory yet make places seen more alive.

The Cheaple model is just a low poly citizen model that's supposed to be in the background of half life 2. He's supposed to be in far places the player can't reach as ambience. His face texture is weird/creepy because the player was never meant to see cheaple's face. I don't know why cheaple has its own custom model though, Valve should've just copied a citizen model and made it low poly.

He was actuay meant to have a bigger role in the first edition of half life 2 , before they remade everything. He'd be the one to give Gordon a "respirator" because the air was too toxic to breathe.

@@comander2033 Uh, your thinking of Samuel who's face texture was actually Art Min's, not Warren Slough, Art Min's face is also the face texture of Male_05. If you do want to know what his purpose was it was likely to be a random citizen face texture alongside the other few. His textures are seen in some very few but not unknown HL2 Beta models like the stenographer model, hope that was a good and thorough explanation!

his model wasn't replaced by a low poly citizen because gabe wanted to honor him in this model that was in hl2 if you go to the hl2 citizen wiki you can find him and there will be a link to a site where people said there goodbyes and gabe was one of them

There are also Combine cheaples. These models are just used to save some resources. Though Valve only used them twice which is dumb.

the metropolice model when you first see cheaple is also a cheaple model. if you compare it to the other metropolice, it is also more low-poly.

Cheaple isn't the only instance of Devs using low poly modles to add ambience. Many of the background structures in the original dark souls were low poly 3D structures the devs added to add more to the world to make it seem bigger. Low poly also allows the Devs to save on memory

Warren Slough was born in Seattle, Washington on the 3rd of December 1972. He died on the 3rd of July 2006, the reasons of his death is not known to the public. His online obituary can be found in Seattle Times. On his obituary, Gabe Newell can be found saying "rest in peace Warren, Cheaple you're going to miss me :People still sees your face in Half-Life 2". The face of cheaple is Warren Slough's face.

Cheaple was used in half life 2 and/or 1 and was used for when you can't see to close making the illusion that it's no low poly. It's not haunted and you can also spawn the ragdoll in the half life 2 bit in the spawn menu on gmod.

the only thing i wish is that npc's like this had a little more AI that walk towards player it'd so much better if they had a detection area so you felt more on edge i dont find nextbots scary for the same reason cause at a certain point avoiding them seems to easy

There is still a place where you can find сheaple in half-life 2. in (map) without going beyond the level change trigger, in the place where the train should have been, there will be a gray box with сheaple inside.

In HL2 when you're walking with Mossman, cheaple actually floats above the air. Now I think I'm having a Mandela effect here, but I remember someone mentioning several years ago that Cheaple is supposed to be modeled partially after David Blaine, a street magician who can levitate. Anyone else remember this??

Once i was playing GMOD (duh, obviously) I noclipped over there and saw the cheaple and thought my game was haunted. I probably left or something after that (Yes i know this video is 1YO.)
