Mission accomplished. Through the viewfinder the out of focus floral patterns also looked interesting in color. And that Holga/Diana strap is traveling in rich company. 😊

Great work, Martin. I think you are quite right about AI, sadly. The future of classic photography is bleak indeed.

Totally agree with the comments regarding using a basic camera for photography, far more satisfying too.

Really brilliant Martin! Just shows that anything can be photographed to make interesting images if done in the right way with a creative mind looking through the camera. Should use your videos as a masterclass for all photographers who claim that there is nothing for them to photograph. An expensive state of the art camera absolutely does not make a photographer.

A friend of mine used to collect certain types of old cameras, and he has a Contax D with Biotar, exactly the item shown here. It's a very simple SLR camera. No return viewing mirror; no auto aperture lens diaphragm; no film advance lever. The Biotar was the premier normal lens for East German cameras of the mid to late 1950s, copied by many non-Zeiss lens makers of the day and sold in various forms for decades thereafter. The focus screen has no focus aids because the split image SLR focus aid was still several years away, and the microprism wouldn't appear for a decade. That course grained viewing image he mentions is what makes it easier to focus. As makers produced finer grained focus screens, the viewing appeared more natural, but the screens also became more troublesome to focus, leading to adding the early split image focus aids. A simpler camera for a simpler time.

What a way to start my morning. Beautiful photography. I like using my old nicor 35 1.4 for that same type of photography. I always have a hard time deciding between acros 100 and FP4. I like using rodinal for both, such a great developer. I really appreciate your creativity and your approach in your productions, very simple and elegant. You are well spoken and a fine man. Thank you for all you do sir.

Excellent video as ever Martin, great idea and great pictures, beautifully presented. Your photographic knowledge knows no bounds. Garden knowledge perhaps needs a brush up- that Hollyhock is a Foxglove and that daisy is an Osteospermum! Hell, you can’t be good at everything!

Brilliant pictures! Work of a master, nothing less. I' ve been doing something similar around my backyard, with my minolta open at f2 or so, but your technique of keeping the lens at one focus distance is something that seems far better than trying to focus with the focus ring, as i try to. I guess having a great focus screen helps a lot, like you say. I love Ilford Delta 100 for this. Thanks for great insight again, Martin! Cheers!
