Turning Red Reaction is today's video!
Hey everyone! I loved Turning Red! Join me as I watch it for the first time today! This movie was really well done and honestly one of my favorites from the newer PIXAR and DISNEY Movies!
Mei Lee is a 13-year-old girl who is torn between being her mother's obedient daughter and the chaos of her youth. As if that were not enough, when she gets too excited, she turns into a big red panda.

I love how this is a growing up movie, but it’s not about “taking responsibility” or any of the stressful BS. It’s about finding yourself, being true to yourself, standing up for yourself, not having to be perfect to be accepted, not having to get rid of the bad in you to be a good person, and how important both friends AND family are during your time growing up. Because, let’s face it, growing up is a lot less stressful when you have supportive people by your side

So…. I’ll just say i liked that this time the movie was “I’m a girl just like the rest, i like popular boy bands, i like karaoke, I’ve got friends” and it wasn’t the typical “Im different to the other girls” and I can’t believe I related to her as much as I thought since her personality and mine are completely different, but the pressure of being perfect for your parents and always being the good girl can make you feel so trapped and stressed that can be overwhelming

I think I have a theory why Ming’s Red Panda was the size of a Kaiju. I think that the size of the panda correlates to the emotional strain the user has. Given how strict Wu seems to be towards her daughter even in her adult years, it stems to reason that Ming has literally bottled up all of her emotions until her pendant shattered and the bottle burst open having no more pressure to endure it. It’s kinda like how the cracks in La Casa represents the stressors the Madrigal family endures to remain toxically perfect in Encanto.

Yes women have been "involved" in film in many ways since the beginning. But rarely are women (or WOC for that matter) fully in command in the director's chair, and the writer's room. In fact, this is the first time in Pixar's own history that we have seen this for a feature length film. It's important to celebrate the representation and progress in those higher-level positions

Same voice actor, although not as noticable compared to his other roles, like the adviser in Mulan, or that one guy in Avatar: The Last Airbender. If I had to nitpick, I'd say there's *one* moment that's flat-out unsuitable for younger kids, and that's when Abby says her mom called 4*Town "stripper music". But even then, she says it so fast that the younger kids probably won't even pick it up due to their short attention spans. Plus, it helps that it's in the middle of a game of dodgeball, which Abby really gets into, which I'd imagine would distract the kids from that line anyway.

People who love you want to be there for you when you're going through difficulties, but they can't if they don't know anything is going on. It's okay to not be happy all the time - letting out your emotions and processing them properly is so much healthier for you. Edit: I think the reason why the mom's Panda was so big is cause she's instead of controlling her emotions, she buries them down deep to the point it all blows over. When she first went "wild" over her lover, she brought up everything including her hatred and true feelings. Here we can see how bad it is to bury our emotions instead of go through them properly. I wish my mom was like this, not like all crazy but understanding that my true self is meant to be away from her.

Yes, turning red is of the Chinese ethnicity/heritage! Even though the red panda myth is not one of the folklores here, but the overall family dynamics and practices are mostly accurate (the relatives, the traditional clothings, the ancestors, etc), as a chinese growing up in a similar family life, I felt extremely relatable to Mei :’) Also, I’m very happy that Domee Shi, the director, doesn’t shy away from talking about some of the main family pressure for their approval and womanly problems that we have to deal with and how we feel during that age, this movie has a very special place in my heart :D thank you so much for your reaction Cody :D ((Fun fact, during that ritual scene, and like a few like exclaiming phrases from grandma are spoken and sung in Cantonese :D I was surprised that to hear that they used my mother tongue rather than mandarin in these movies from big well known animation studios hahaha

First of all... Happy Birthday Cody!! 🎉🎊 Second, I cried my friggin eyes out at how close to home Mei-Mei's storyline is for me after turning eighteen months ago. Like her ending monologe could quoted by me in how much my life has changed, Abby is another side of me that expressed how I am. My entire persona is in the movie through Mei and her gals lmao 😂 Also, the film is a whole lotta fun, hilarious, and enjoyable. Another success in my book for Pixar!! 👏✨

The reason Grandma Wu says 4 is unlucky it's because the word four in chinese sounds almost like their word for death, hence why number four is consindered unlucky, like number 13 is for us in the west.

I only started watching when it’s 9 PM here, but, Happy Birthday Cody! You happen to share it with another favorite KZfaqr of mine, who was sadly taken from us way too soon. But you have brought me and many others so much enthusiasm throughout this year, letting us see our favorite movies through fresh, almost child-like eyes. Thank you, and here’s to many more adventures together.

I understand why people r mad at Mei 4 not speaking up when her mom yelled at her friends, but think about it; standing up takes courage, even more courage when its ur own parent u hav 2 stand up 2. And during the heat of the moment, Mei clearly was scared 2 tell her mom that her friends didn't do anything wrong. So I'm really not mad at her, I'm more sympathetic, because even when ur an adult or teen, u can feel nervous when u hav 2 talk 2 ur parents

There is this super cool theory that the reason Mei's mom's panda is so much bigger is because she bottled up her emotions- while everyone else found a healthy way to cope, her anger and resentment just kept growing and she tried to keep quiet to honor her family. The panda sort of resembles all that
