The Any Fish Any Where 14’ mk2 rod called the “6 and Bait” perfectly describes the intention and sets the foundation of this set up.
Penn Fathom II amzn.to/3HBKT8Z
Six and bait amzn.to/3vlZgMa
Genie link amzn.to/36LuVw7
Swivel amzn.to/3BSRsm2
Asso Ultraflex amzn.to/3C8JwgV
Asso ultracast amzn.to/3IFpnBz
Teamed up with these rods are the Penn Fathom 2 casting specials loaded with 0.36mm, 20lb ASSO ultra-cast. Following this lead is the shockleader also made by ASSO and called ultra-flex. I have chosen 70lb & 80lb to give myself some choice.
The rig for most of this year is a 5’ pulley rig made with Trident Tackle, the latest release Dynaform and the mk2 version of the Termalink.
The chosen lead weight Is The Gemini grip weight with the solo bait clip built in.

Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzfaq.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

Great tutorial Mark. Loved the sound of the reel but i will learn as a beginner on Shakespeare 80 for time being. Just upgraded my rod rest to Shakespeare. I have to use a Breach Cart for all my gear, not skilled enough to carry fishing box & rod over those stone banks . I wouldn't be able to cast after logging miles to a spot! 🙄 I'm sure i give the chaps a good old giggle slugging all my gear in a cart 😅

Interesting video thanks Mark. Useful info about sliding reel seats for those that have them - my rods all have fixed seats, and I only use Fixed spool. Great video mark very informative if I was starting out it would be just what I would be looking for I also feed the line through with the drag slackened off as when in free spool you can end up with slack loops with could end up causing problems with the cast , how are the rods handling I like the look of them they are 4" longer than my Imax rods which are 13' 8" how are you getting on with the fathoms glad you found your elastic 😂 what were you targeting were you Barton way or a bit further tight lines mate

Location was Hordle and a section known to produce rays when they move inshore. Mainly when they are searching for sand eels. The rods are really good and I went down the shore for an hour this morning practicing. Casting reel down now and getting consistent 150’s but that seems to be my limit. Some more practicing and a bit of coaching might help. 🎣👍🏻

A few of my friends have 6 and baits and have totally abused them, they keep on going. AFAW are an underatted and understated brand sometimes and often get over looked by the likes of century. Serious quality for the money. I've been through the reel merry go round and generally end up back with slosh 20s for most of my fishing, set up properly they cast as well as any newer reel
@seaangling
@seaangling 2 жыл бұрын
A very honest and accurate view and I’m of the same opinion. The rods are amazing value considering the build and performance. Regarding reels, I didn’t get on with the 525 mag 3’s but loved the 7HT’s which cast amazing. I have a pair of SL30SH’s for the boat and they deal with some serious abuse and lots of use. They still look and work great. The new Fathom 2 cs are very nice and I think they will be keepers, so much so I may get a third.

There seem to be 2 productive areas. 1. Centre of the carpark casting off the spit in front and at distance. 2. When facing the sea go right of the gun placement and be prepared to move up onto the bank as the beach gets covered at HW.

Steven, you are very welcome. The type of ground and intended weight will be good starting points and then your price point and ability. If you want to cast 6oz weights with reasonable sized baits into light to medium ground then the 6 & bait would be worth considering. The world is your oyster if you have deeper pockets.

What have you found to be the main difference between other Penn 525 mags and the fathoms? Think it will be time to add a fathom to my gear to sit alongside my 525 mag 4, and replace the mag 2.
@seaangling
@seaangling 2 жыл бұрын
The metal casing is what you notice first and although this adds weight it feels like a quality product. I have the 15 size and so the amount of line this spool will take is considerable and changes the way the free spool reacts. Smaller lighter spool (12) will be faster but the 15 feels more predictable. I am not proficient with multiplier casting from the shore but I am getting along with the CS’s well. 🎣

How you getting on with your new rods mark?? Have debated these for a while never here a bad word about theM
@seaangling
@seaangling 2 жыл бұрын
Short term thoughts are they are very complimentary to casting. Flex well in the middle, stiff but compliant at the base and a tip that gives good bite indication but is firm enough to sit into a tide. I like them. I think the build is good, I’ve not had any problems with a moving reel seat as some have said and the Fuji rings are nice quality. The gloss finish may weather more than a satin but again, I like it. Some tape or finish that helps to grip where the 2 sections meet might help. Overall I think they are cracking value for the money, time will tell on performance.

Hi mark. I’ve noticed you fish the reel up, I know it’s your preference but does it make any difference at all? I’m in the process of getting my first multiplier and I don’t think I could cast with the reel down. Any advise would be great, thank you.
@seaangling
@seaangling 5 ай бұрын
It is personal preference but there is an advantage to casting reel down. There is nothing wrong with placing the multiplier “reel up” if that is more comfortable for you. One thing with a lot of new rods is they either have sliding reel seats or you can use coasters. Fish how ever you feel comfortable.

Hello Mark, do you know of anyone who makes rod holdalls that allow you to Carry beach size rods and reels to carried made up as per carp set up ? I enjoyed your video 👍
@seaangling
@seaangling 2 жыл бұрын
That is not how I carry mine but friends do carry theirs that way and use straps to hold rods and tripod together. Personally I don’t like it as everything gets clattered about and my worry is knocking a guide out. I suppose it would also depend on wether it is FS or multiplier. The former being more difficult to accommodate. I have got a carp rod Goodall at home that would do what you ask but only for a 3 piece rod as it is short. Maybe someone else can chip in if they have an answer or I’ll ask on the community page.

Hi mark hope your well and hope you can help I’m just getting into beach and sea fishing what are the better rigs to use please. Also strength and type/brand of line
@seaangling
@seaangling 6 ай бұрын
For rigs there are the standard 2or3 hook flapper/clipped. Pulley or up and over. Those should see you for most occasions and there are making videos on the channel. For mono mainline it will depend on location and ground type. A safe setup to go for first would be 20lb mainline and 70lb shockleader. You can reduce mainline diameter as confidence grows and skills develop. The base rule for shockleader is 10lb per oz of weight plus 10lb. So 6oz weight = 70lb shockleader.

@@seaangling that’s great thanks so much . My only other question mate for now is rod and reel. What would you recommend for a beginner at beach fishing.
@seaangling
@seaangling 6 ай бұрын
@@waynecummings5554 all down to budget and location with your target species considered. Your local tackle shop will be able to talk you through the options but most 4.20 metre rods with a matched fixed spool reel at 8000 size would cover most areas. Using this setup will give you easily achieved distance with good bite detection. Again, your local shop can advise for you local area. 🎣👍🏻
