I found a great beach shelter that had been built on the coast so I decided to camp in it for the night. It was very close to a dog-walking trail so there was plenty of people to hide from. A very neat spot for camping, but a risky camping spot indeed! Late to bed and early to get up.

I always found the best method to get people to leave me alone was to ask them questions first. I think I got the idea from a BIlly Connolly sketch about "getting your question in first". "Do you know how long this has been here?" "Do you know who built it?" "Have you seen any other on the coast?" "Have you seen anyone actually use it?" But for anyone else reading this, don't make it into an emergency by making up a fictional person who needs to be found. Because people WANT to help you then lol Other suggestion, red light filters on light will cut down the visibility a little.

I have only seen a few videos so far, started with the stealth camping in a roundabout then to the river journeys. I ended up finding the video about your loss, and I feel for you. You seem like a genuinely good guy, no one should have to go through that kind of event. Seeing you continue with a reasonable amount of enthusiasm is inspiring! The honesty section in this video was sobering in a good way, but at the same time saddening. Almost like when you're a kid and you see your parents sad. I hope you continue on with what you love and succeed as well, I know we all enjoy it! Just don't forget that there are still people who care about you and that you're not alone. I look forward to more videos with your crazy neighbor, the boat camping videos are very cool, they remind me of a Huckleberry Fin kind of story, the good ole boys going down the river. Best of luck to you Steve, I look forward to more cool videos.

Get a earth tone color backpack. Camouflage is ok but when and if people do happen to see you they may think your trying to hide or your hunting. A earth tone is stealthy and people won’t think your trying to hide. Sometimes the best camo for stealth is the red flannel you’re already wearing. You’ll just look like a lost hiker if you are spotted.

Oh how I've learned the hate the word "resilient" over the last six months... I lost my infant son to SIDS just before Steve lost Jess, I lost my home and nearly everything I owned in my grief, I lost my 7 year old daughter for an entire month, and now I'm trying to rebuild my life from nothing, with very very little help... And sure, everyone wants to call it "resilience" that I'm here, and I'm trying. But the truth is, it was simply pure animal instinct that made me survive for months and months and months. It's only very recently that I've found reasons to want to live again. Surviving through grief is far less than resilience much of the time... it's just a mindless fog of pain, and your body does what it needs to do to continue to b function largely by reflex. It's been a very rough journey back to the light. So I hate that word, "resilient."

Steve, I’m going to give you the long story, but please read to the end. As I was growing up, I would go camping with my uncle on a very regular basis. We would go to a National Forest a few hours away and do very primitive camping. We would try new equipment, but the idea was less is more. Often, we wouldn’t take more than a large tarp, a couple of bungie cords (beer of course!), a saw, and a little bit of food. These are some of my best memories as an adolescent and early adult. Then life happened and we started going less and less. I joined the Army and moved away. Starting a new chapter in life, I got to do some really cool things and see some very cool places. I deployed to Afghanistan twice (for a year each time) and got to experience war firsthand. There were constant explosions and firefights, and a lot of good people weren’t the same after the dust cleared. We lived in a tent (with about 30 people), I slept on a cot. Space was extremely tight, but that’s as close to camping as you can get in that region lol. I was injured pretty substantially during my first deployment, and again on the second. After returning home, sleep was a big hurdle. It’s kind of strange that while you’re over there you sleep fine (maybe because you’re just so drained from the day), but once you get home is when it gets harder. I used to lay in bed and imagine being back on my cot and in my sleeping bag in order to appreciate the astounding comfort difference and try to go to sleep. Sometimes it helped, sometimes not. Recently, I accidentally clicked on and watched one of your stealth camping videos. Not gonna lie at first I was like what the hell is this guy doing. But after watching, I noticed how carefree you seemed. How much you truly enjoyed being outside (and drinking beer). It absolutely brought me back to when I used to love camping. I never did it in the middle of a freeway, or behind a billboard or any of the other crazy places you have- but I would like to. The point of this whole ramble is that your videos bring a sense of calm to me. I watch one every night before going to bed, and it really helps to put my mind in a place of calmness and happiness. I sleep a lot better recently. I really appreciate it. I appreciate your humor and your approach to getting into the woods (or wherever). I miss camping very much and plan to get back to it. Lastly, I Googled your name to try to get some background on who this guy is. I was shocked to see that you recently suffered a terrible loss in your life. I want to offer my deepest condolences. Coming from someone who also has delt with tragedy, I understand how hard it can be. I want you to know that what you do brings joy and happiness to peoples lives. Keep doing what you’re doing and know that you are no longer sleeping alone in the woods. Patrick
