Really liked this one, Giles. Beautiful beach scenes. Boy, the tide goes way out there! That was a good idea to drop your shelter down to protect you from the wind. Burying your tie off points was very clever. Keep up the good work!

Hi Giles, you’ve quickly become one of my favourite KZfaq channels, I’m only 3 minutes in on this 1, just thought I’d mention a little tip for the microphone, try a little bit of cotton wool and a small elastic band to hold it over the mic, it should still record audio but diffuse the worst of the wind, anyway on with the video, thanks for making them, all very enjoyable, ATB, Ian 🙂👍🏻

Enjoyed this and your shelter is very low key in this landscape. Beach camping is my favourite form of wild camping, my choice of shelter being the polish army half shelter. Good Evening Giles .. 👍👍👍 .. nice .. thanks for sharing. A bit of a change from hunkering down in a forest. Unfortunately, a misspent youth out on an East Coast Surf Line and later wandering around in the Southern African Bush has resulted in my skin having exceeded its UV tolerance. Worse, this in an era when 'having a nice brown tan' was considered cool and one 'healthy and fit' .. and not the body trying to reduce / minimise permanent UV-related skin damage and worse. One consolation on such a windy beach overnighter, no ticks or mosquitoes .. or 'widow-makers 😊. 'Wind Chill' .. always a consideration .. more so riding a motorcycle. The balmiest Jekyll of a Day can become an absolute Hyde, given a bit of breeze .. especially off the sea. Once again, thanks and until next time, take care .. Tommy

Oh that beach looks so inviting and the sea looks good, stuck in a hot apartment with my small AC unit on full for half the day and fans to keep cooler. I suppose that's one of the things i miss from living down South in the new Forest, beaches, open moorland and the cover of trees and cool rivers during summer. Lucky to keep your phone whilst in the sea. I used to go out on Hurst Spit - do some spinning for fish and an overnighter but you have to be aware of the tides, I've since heard half of it has fallen into the sea now, the waves got it eventually.

Great stuff Giles! That was yet another thoroughly enjoyable outing, which are words that feel slightly strange to say as someone who didn't actually go on the outing! I thought recently (while I was out myself cooking over a fire, the same day as you, I think!) that you'd probably get out and make use of this unusually warm weather. I didn't get to stay out overnight, as I'm one of those people that you mentioned, that has to work on weekdays (and a lot of Sunday, too!) but I did manage to forage a decent quantity of bilberries. I have got some more time off coming up though, luckily; two separate weeks in August so I should be able to get out a couple of times. It was interesting to see the sea kale growing, I don't think we get much of it around here but we did see lots of it last summer, by Old Harry's Rocks on Purbeck in Dorset. Looks like there was a lot of flint on the beach, I'd have wanted to pick up a suitable piece for my fire lighting kit. Another rarity around here, though we have lots of quartz which can serve the same purpose when used with a piece of carbon steel. I thought it was hilarious when you mentioned the naturists - especially when you said, "I've realised that I stick out a bit like a sore thumb, so I'm just going to..." and I thought you were going to say, "...so I'm just going to strip off to blend in!" I'm glad you found a secluded spot where you could wear your clothes in peace! Thanks also for the dehydrating tips, we've just ordered a dehydrater as it hapens, so that information was helpful at just the right time. It always seems a little cooler by the sea. It seems it was the same cool sea breeze that kept you cooler during the day, that worked against you at night time when the sun had gone. It was really good to share another of your outdoor activities, thanks again Giles. They really are a real treat to look forward to every time. See you again, mate!

Thanks very much Adrian. Always so nice to hear from you and thank you for your support. I hope you do manage to get out sometime during your two breaks in August. I can’t remember if you are based in Wales or the Purbeck area (Dorset). Any way it was interesting to hear you spotted Sea Kale near Old Harry’s Rocks. What a stunning cliff walk that is. We must go back again soon now you have reminded me. Yeah, little bit of a shock with the naturist bit. But it was all cool - I think everyone on that beach was just looking for a bit of seclusion - me included !!! Good luck with dehydrating - it’s pretty straight forward and opens up lots of camp food opportunities. You can even dehydrate complete dinners - you can get special sheets to rest on the shelves to contain it while it dries. But complete dinners aren’t as nice as throwing together a meal (using some dehydrated) in the woods. Yeah, I was a bit surprised the breeze didn’t die away as evening fell. But the old Zeltbahn came to the rescue 😊 !!! Thank you so much for all you kind comments Adrian and watching the vids. Hope you get out again soon - take care, keep safe my Friend 👍

Hey Giles, great trip down to the beach, lovely to see the sea kale, I knew straight away what it was but I don't think I've seen it growing wild , just in my wild food book. I watched a video with a hack for the mobile phone, I ended up buying womens hair rollers off amazon, upon getting them I took out the central plastic part and was left with the foam, Cut one length and it goes over the end of the phone, that is if your microphone is there. A cheap fix, if you want a video link to the hack let me know and I'll try find it. You really adapted to life at the shingle beach, buring the rock, perfect fire cooking skills. I really will have a look at dehydrating this weekend Giles, it must be the way forward. 31.09 min amazing shot of the sun and it got bigger and bigger, awesome. cheers Giles, enjoyed that.

Thanks very much for watching Chris. Hope you are doing well and feeling hiking fit Bud. Yeah, I’m so slack on foraging I haven’t got round to the Sea Kale yet - but it’s meant to be delicious talking to friends (but must be picked lightly and over a large area - it’s quite rare due to being habitat specific I think). Thanks a million for the microphone hack. I’m gonna start a few experiments in the garden. Luckily wind is rarely a problem in the forest but on the beach …it usually is. Thanks for watching and commenting Richard. Yeah, the old gear can cope with a few various conditions 😊 Not sure I’ve moved on from the veg steamer really. The Vargo Fire Pit (titanium) is at least 7 or 8 times the cost of a veg steamer 😳 and no better. Beautifully shot ,amazing use of a phone. The use of beach anchors was a great idea, we used to use something similar in snow , on rope descents, multi point fixing (like dog sled use crossing frozen lakes or rivers) when i worked in U S Back in the early 90's. bought those memories flooding back, as the surf came in and out on your wonderful location.. Really enjoyed the long lay tarp set up. my favourite (being 6'4). question:" How much does the sheepskin weigh . and do you think it has comparable comfort to a modern inflatable mat.?? Thanks as always my friend for your time and effort. ATVB2U. Scott Somerset

Thanks very much Scott. I appreciate you watching and the comment. Interesting to hear about using the ground anchors in snow also. Yeah, my sheepskin comes in at approx 1kg (I have heavily waxed the underside too). I think it is comparable in comfort and insulation to a low/medium grade self inflating mat. Probably not up to the higher spec manual inflatable mats. Thx again Bud 👍
