As someone who’s watched hundreds of how-to videos in the YT universe, and as a career auto worker, I can tell you this man’s content is on point, start to finish. 👌 I still remember 10+ years ago when I was intimidated by drum brakes because I had only ever worked with discs and calipers. A lot of what I had to teach myself the first year is covered in this simple video. 🍻 👏 Thanks for putting this together! ✌️

Once I removed the drum, I noticed that it needed a good cleaning and again used the tips from this video. Thanks so much! and I'm happy to be a sub on this channel.

i have done my rear brakes many times, this is a spot on video, the only thing i believe is good to do is pull the brake shoes out a little and put a thin layer of brake caliper grease on the backing plate, you must be careful not to get it on the shoes, i wish you had a video on how to gravity brake fluid flush the lines, if you do can you send me the link, other videos are not what i like,

I just put shoes on my Tacoma 2002 and read in my book on how to adjust them is to pull the parking brake lever. Well I was under it greasing the drive line and looking at everything and found the cable for the parking brake and started pulling it back and forth and I could hear the star wheel clicking and realized it was finishing the adjustment on the shoes. The are great now it stops on a dime.

Good advice at 10:45 - 11:20. I'm having trouble with my Hyundai 2019 Elantra SE rear drums. I put new shoes on the driver side and reassembled the springs, etc. I put the drum back on relatively easy and the drum will turn with slight drag, Perfect, right? But when I screw in the two flathead drum bolts that hold the drum on, the drum will not turn at all. Do I need to tighten the star wheel adjuster in all the way? Or do I need to compress the two cylinder rams?

I just did drums and Wheel cylinders today. Also replaced the front right caliper and now my pedal goes almost to the floor. I have bled all four corners 2 times and it did not seem to fix the issue. I did adjust the drums, which helped a bit. The parking brake is nice and tight but the brake pedal still feels pretty spongey. Any idea on what this could be? The new cylinders are definitely working as I had my wife hit the brakes with the drum off. Spent about 10 hours today chasing this down. Help would be greatly appreciated, next stop is the dealer.

Help please. I spent $170 on my 2010 Toyota Tacoma yesterday just to get the front rotors turned and had thought there was a problem with the brakes because when I apply at the end there's a small hissing sound right before it comes to a stop. Then when I drove my vehicle off it's shaking and shimmering and so I took it back because it was not doing that when I pulled it in there and they drove it and said that they didn't feel that and that there was a recall on the transmission and it must be a transmission problem. It is not and I've also called them back this morning because I'm so pissed off. On the receipt it says they resurfaced the front rotors, resurfaced rear drums, clean and adjust rear shoes. What would make my truck shimmy like this the drums? Or the rear shoes? Or that's resurfacing the rotors? When I called I asked what did you do to my truck and he says he didn't that it was shimmying when they test drove it and it must have just started shimmying whenever they test drove it which is BS. He will not admit anything he done wrong but he does something. So please help me what would cause this? Thank you

!!! you should NOT ever use a power tool on those threaded prybolts... ALWAYS use a hand wrench/ratchet and 2 bolts in there to take it slow and easy one bolt a turn then the other bolt a turn, with a rubber mallet occasionally to tap on the drum... you are much less likely to damage anything by hand wrenching because you ARE NOT stronger than the power drill and if it is that stuck you need to be very ginger with it. i removed my relatives '11 drums for the first time in 12yrs (67k miles) like this, it was rusted a bit to the center area but the shoes were not grabbing at all it slipped right back on with no adjustment,,, I also replaced the paper brake drum gasket its and Automatic so the brake shoes ARE NOT regularly adjusted using the parking brake such as my MT Gen1 Taco that always use handbrake which makes those shoue UBER tight against those drums

Why are drum adjustments always based on "feel?" Is this really how a newly built car from a factory is adjusted? If so, I would think every car would have different tension/drag in its drum out of the factory. Why does everything in automotive have a gauge, instrument, or tool to make adjustments precise and consistent everytime but yet drum adjustments are based on a person's opinion? No matter how many drum adjustment video I watch, I'm still baffled by this.
@Beacon_Offroad
@Beacon_Offroad 2 жыл бұрын
Well I can tell you very commonly most drums come poorly adjusted from the factory and not adjust at pdi. Id say that's probably because there not set up by feel and done some other way on the assembly line.
