Very informative, Mona. I have made a Sioux style pipe bag, similar to your design using white buckskin. Took me 6 months to make when i was 16. Still have it. I've been beading a long time, and I still am learning. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. One thing I've struggled with when beading was keeping the beads laying flat, tight, and rigid. Your video really helped me with that.

Thank you for turning me on to Easy Felt. That has made a huge difference for me. Although, it introduced me to Hobby Lobby in Helena, MT, which I see by their beading section is dangerous.

Recently found your videos and im in love! So informative !! I grew up with my Potawatomi grandmother and was taught this at a very young age. She passed on late last year, and I forgot much that I learned from packing up and moving for work. I've finally gained enough time and the want to learn and your videos help so much!

Sierra Kincaid, Thank you for watching. 😄 I try to use elements of my tribe. Grow Ventre and Assinaboine design elements and then give them a spin of my own. Pintrest is a great visual resource to collect ideas. If you'd like to check out my Pintrest page Mona Cliff I have a wealth of pins one board is called Beadwork Beautifulness, I use as inspirations. I have many sketches as well. A doodle that came to mind, Then try to work on something I'm drawn too and use those. Sometimes my inspiration comes from the piece I'm working and who I'm beading it for. 😄 the more you sketch and research the more confident you'll become. Hope this helps. 💗

elsiluxeros, this video shows some suggestions on how to bead on leather. You can also bead on most kinds of leather. I'd suggest reading up on leather weights to see what will suit your needs. I also made a few other videos that cover the basics of beading along with materials. Hope this helps.

Hi, Mona! I love your videos. I'm trying to teach myself beading as a way to connect with my Dene heritage, and your video's are so wonderfully well done, I already feel competent! I bought some hide to work on, and I got this really soft deer leather that's basically fabric. I'm on amazon trying to figure out what stabiliser to buy, but I'm beyond lost. The ones you use look and sound a lot like paper, but everything I can find is more like a fabric itself, either woven or sort of mushed together like particle board or handmade paper. And then there's water soluable and iron on and different oz's and.. my eyes have crossed. And I can't seem to find the pellon you're using in this video. So my question is, do the fabric-type ones work just the same? Also, for something as soft as fabric, should I actually iron on or stick on the stabiliser to the leather? And from what I can tell, at least with embroidering, the stabiliser is supposed to go on the back, not the front; but you're using it on the front here... and don't seem bother with sticking it to the leather. I don't know if you, or if anyone else reading these comments, might be able to help me. I'd love to bead a small flower on this deer hide to make a small medicine pouch. And sadly google isn't helping me out. Thank you for your time and your excellent instruction in beading :)

@@mariebom8145 Thank you :) I made this comment when I was a true newbie. I hadn't beaded a thing yet. I'm not a huge fan of supporting walmart and I try to support indigenous and or local businesses as much as possible now, so try to stay off amazon, too. I've since found similar things to work on. Although no tear-a-way pellon which still sounds great for beading directly on soft hide. So far I've just done thing thing where you bead onto the pellon or pellon alternative and then trim it and sew it onto the hide. I think I may have to suck it up and give walmart a few bucks to get this tear-a-way kind, though. Cheers and happy beading!!

Thank you for your videos! Im begginer, currenly beading on ordinary felt, but i dont really like it, its too thin for me. Could you, please, give me some description of EZ Felt you use? I dont think i will find it under this name here in Czech republic.
@monac.8890
@monac.8890 6 жыл бұрын
Soňa Uhlířová Hmm🤔🤔 yes, the felt is very stiff. Actually the brand Pellon that I use is meant for stabilizing bags and for crafts. It is a Ultra Heavyweight Stabilizer. I'm sure it can be found at many craft stores. If you cant, Maybe to trouble shoot, you could secure the felt in a embroidery hoop. Just an idea.
@monac.8890

Soňa Uhlířová the EZ Felt I use is a super stiff felt, I found in the felt department of the craft store. Mostly what I use is trial an error. I've used all kinds of materials. My suggestion would be to experiment with different types of materials that you can find in your area and see what works best for you. 😉😊 I hope this helps and Happy Beading!

Kathy Morgan hi! Actually ive never used crib sheeting before but ive heard from othwr beaders that they used it often. I used a size 13 John James needle Sharps. And i used a size 12 needle to tack down. The thread is size B.

Thank you. I use the crib sheeting all the time. I would like to bead on the leather a little more. I always think it looks hard to go through. If the leather is soft is it easier to go through? I just did eagle feathers for a leather scout shirt. Nearly killed my fingers to sew them on. Thanks for answering me.

Your welcome. Yes, some leather can be difficult to bead through. There are leather needles one ensure to bead with but I find the smaller needles like size 12s to be just as effective going through the leather. There is a technique which passes the needle through the top layer only, I only advise doing that if you have a non commercially tanned leather though. Also I haven't mastered that way of beading yet. I think doing a smaller project it's not so bad. But I went through several layers of top skin doing this project, lol.
