Rowan Atkinson's professed atheism and regular gentle ridiculing of clergy) was supposed to be the closing chapter on the earthly existence of Bean, who is a fallen angel. At the end of it he reaches the shore in Cannes (the name means "the reeds"), to which his walk is miraculously facilitated, and the whole cast joins in singing "La Mer", whose lyrics in fact include... "The sea, merged with the summer sky, her white sheep so pure like angels. The sea, blue shepherdess, infinite". We expect a film of this kind to have meaning ... perhaps even beyond the intentions or knowledge of its makers. 0:35 - a Priest shakes hands with a man with a goat!!! 0:47 - Bean gets "the thunderbolt" - even he! 0:57 - His reverie is rudely interrupted by an assault gun type vehicle probably intended to be a Stug III - interestingly, in English the word stug is now used to mean flawless, insurmountable positivity and bliss!!! 1:16 - No fear at all 1:20 - Clay says: "What the h*ll is he doing?" and then "Where did he come from?" (the traditional question with Bean!!!) 4:02 - the sign saying "repartition" is completely unnecessary as it adds no content to the plugs and cables. However, in the film context it has some relevance as it means distribution, sharing out, allotment, but also division... Bean takes his share of the power to deal with the low battery on his camera, which has previously been supported on his gun. 5:54 - "It's me you saved just now" (a further step in the rehabilitation process, by which a more humane, more caring, less selfish Bean emerges) The name of the beauty who drives a matching car to that driven by Bean is Sabine (a clever play on the name, not disguising the saintly history of the name - the women who were prepared to live on with their captors so as to avoid the deaths of their fathers and brothers who swore to attempt their rescue). Sabine considers he might be Spanish, Italian, Greek or Russian. Then she insults the fast overtaker with "espece de conard" ("species of jerk/imbecile"), he then repeats as "espece de canard" ("species of duck"). Bean turns a set for an advert into the real world, turns a gun into a tripod for a camera, turns an aggressive driver into a duck (in fact echoing a Canadian children's novel of Christian content called "the Boy who turned into a duck"), he turns power for an explosion into power for his camera. In Cannes, Sabine will be in the Grand Theatre Lumiere (named after pioneer of film and photography Louis Lumiere, but the surname actually means "light"). So they are going the theatre of light.
