I've clambered along the banks and fished around some class 5 water, and it never fails to humble me, watching a bear or a moose navigate wilderness terrain. Some do lose their lives tangling with rivers such as this, but a bear thinks nothing of terrain that would stop a man cold or kill him. I felt pity for a moose that was "stuck" on the highway between the end of a trail and the next trail it wanted. Then as it took off up the new trail, plowing through 8-foot snowdrifts like NOTHING, I stopped feeling sorry and realized it was MADE for this, and just taking advantage of a nice handy stretch of road.

Words mean something. A waterfall is characterized by water flowing over rocks and through the air while falling to the riverbed below. It may be only a foot or two, but it's still a waterfall. In this case, the bear swam through a rapid, rapids being the turbulent flow of water over boulders at a fast rate, bur remaining in the riverbed. This was definitely not a bear going "over a waterfall."

( Cape buffalo being #1 but not by much. ) I live Alaska bush in bear Central. Use grizzlies to rip out tree stumps & remove beaver dams. Easy trick. Use a sharpshooter shovel & dig a hole under what i want out. Pour pancake syrup down the hole. Bears smell it, rip out the stumps for me for the sweet treat. Beavers are constantly flooding out the land. Dig the hole on the backside at the bottom. Bears rip out the dam, then eat the exposed beavers tearing out their lodges afterwards. WIN WIN!

Videos like this really help us realize the power of words & the thoughts & ideas they bring us. When I read the title I thought the waterfall was high, dangerous, something a lot of us would never be able to see if we didn't live in those settings, turns out, I've been on scarier water slides than what this bear experienced. Do you know some bears go over waterfalls on purpose like this just to get cool & have fun on those very hot days? (Reader Beware)

I just learned something. Depending where you're from, you're going to have a different perspective on what you think is a waterfall. My experience of a water fall is totally different. I was thinking the bear was going to go over Niagara Falls. LOL This was just a dip in the river rapids.

I was lucky enough to go after a career in forestry and work nearly all my career in field positions in recreation management and law enforcement. People seem to be very fascinated with bears and that is a little foreign to me. I don't see them any differently than deer, elk, coyotes, bison, etc. Often I had stretches where I saw more bears than anything else. For much of the time it was frustrating to deal with how people react to bears, their behavior is no cuter than that of an elk. However, people put themselves into danger around all wild animals, even with bears. People who see human characteristics in bears, think they are cute, etc., are often those who hurt bears the most. By the way, despite this being Yellowstone and the bear not being black, this is a typical American black bear. If he had not made it over the waterfall, to the shore and died I would call that natural selection and not a tragedy, something humans should not interfere with.

@@wannabetowasabe Why the double standard?
@wannabetowasabe
@wannabetowasabe 4 жыл бұрын
@@Nagy50Magyar Due to human intelligence and an opposable thumb. We should be intelligent enough to understand that we should not interfere with natural processes in wildland settings. This is a reason wolves were reintroduced in Yellowstone National Park. The entire ecosystem has benefited from returning this important predator to the ecosystems of the Yellowstone Plateau. We are intelligent enough to see that we caused the health of the elk herd there by eliminating a predator and increased the numbers of elk the habitat could support. This had a huge effect on many other resources or ecosystem components. We (humans) were able to gather data to understand the huge mistake that was made to eliminate this animal. The grizzly bear is another very important component of many ecosystems and the number was dwindling, so we protected them from as much human influence as possible. That, just like the health of the elk herd, is that we don't intervene when elk or bear get sick, drown and fall off cliffs, etc. Treating wildlife like pets interferes with natural selection and leads to genetic modification by humans.
