Man vs. Wild made Bear Grylls one of the most popular reality stars on TV, as fans loved to see him taking on the various wilderness scenarios. However, Grylls has fallen from grace a bit in the last few years, as it has been revealed that the death-defying stunts he performed on Man vs. Wild and The Island weren’t as real as he would have you believe.
In addition, survival experts who appeared on the shows alongside him have confirmed that the events portrayed were pretty fake. Let’s take a look at some Bear Grylls stunts that were totally fake.

I always felt like Man Vs Wild was more of a simulation. Not actually survival, like how survivor man was. Bear was there to entertain you and show you possible scenarios and solutions to problems and then showing us in example of how he would go about it if he was surviving. Different from Survivor Man in the way that Les Stroud is doing his examples of what to do it certain scenarios but actually trying to take you through it the most real way possible.

So why the fucking background voice in the show always talk like the certain situation in the scenes were real!? Like for example while he's in the Sahara desert the voice told us "he's is alone, with only his crews" and talks like the dude really was needed in food and he indeed was really struggling to survive!? And for you to know, if you're in real survival situation in the desert, you wouldn't want to talk like he did in the show. Talk talk talk talk, that alone can eat out all of his fucking calories! The most fucked up thing is, if the show is focused to entertain, why not straight up tell us "the show is for entertainment only" huh!? And why made talking like he's in real death or alive situation when he fucking eat nice food behind the scene!? People are fucking ignorant, and also naive! I believe most of these believers of bear are all drama addicts whom love watching extreme dramatic scenes. Shame on you all!

I met bear on a survival course back in 2016 in wiltshire where he did actually show us survival techniques but tbh i go off youtubers now because some fire starting methods ive learned of some youtubers are simple and fantastically effective practically instantly in starting. bear was going all around everyone asking if they had a any questions and one woman popped up and said how she is a fan of man vs wild wild etc and even bear said there and then he enjoyed his time on it but it was a heavily scripted show mainly showing the audience some techniques what could help you in the wild not necessarily save you and some entertainment of him him eating nasty stuff which he enjoyed inflicting on the crew. I liked him alot, seemed a down to earth type of dude and regardless of the shows fakery ive still bought his knives and they have never failed me.

To me, it's kind of like saying you'd watch Shark Tank to learn how to become a millionaire. No doubt that the Sharks are successful business owners and partners, but there's obviously more entertainment value for the screen. Wouldn't be much reality tv shine in the logistics of running your own business, let alone a survival show of a guy just repeatedly defeating death in silence to 'prove it'. If he took himself to a situation where danger was very likely, just for TV, that's more than just him in danger. There's a limit to the filming, imagine Bear fighting a wild animal or something - legitimately fighting for his life - then having to go to court because a cameraman was injured.

For someone like me who has had his SAS training by living his entire life in Finland, the episodes where Bear is trying to 'survive' in an extreme, sub-zero environment stand out in a particularly bad way. He never wears any kind of hat or beanie and rarely even has mittens or gloves on. It looks absolutely ridiculous and takes away what little credibility this program has. It's almost comparable to the scenes in Game of Thrones where Jon Snow is travelling beyond the Wall, looking like he's going to attend the Paris fashion week. But I guess showbiz is showbiz and it would mess his hair 😂 In real life though, he would lose his fingers and simply freeze to death.

I mean yes the situations are setup to show how you would survive, but the man has still climbed everest, paraglided around it, crossed the atlantic in an open top RIB, traveled the north west passage in a RIB and served in the military, cut the guy some slack

Grylls would certainly do better than most when it comes to surviving in a wilderness. He's prepared to do anything, eat anything, and he's very fit. He's also ex military and conquered Everest. What he mostly is now though is a marketing machine. His TV shows are 100% self-promotion and full of "Look at how tough I am" moments. His advice is generally poor. Survival is about keeping healthy, and getting rescued. The moment you get injured, by trekking over hazardous terrain, your chances of survival take a nose-dive. Eating/Drinking something that gives you diarrhoea instantly means you will lose more energy/fluids than you took in. It's just crazy to advocate eating or drinking from dubious sources. He does it simply to show what a hero he is... to himself.

What are you saying bro ,he is doing a tough job in his shows for us not only to entertain to give informative thoughts and survivel skills, totally it's not fake , but in some situation borrow some animals to show us how to be alive when us come face to face an animal so don't think negatively, support these type of shows.

But some aren't actually real like the water poop they mentioned. If you were in a survival situation, having a combination of real and fake information can be very detrimental, as you won't know what's true.

I stopped watching that show when Bear was struggling to cross a river, the camera was set at the classic water level shot. When the camera dipped below the water it briefly revealed that the depth was about two feet.

You never had seen the Bear Grylls specials? What you are saying isn't something shocking or breaking, in the specials you can see the camera crew a meters of Grylls, even that he says that they should interfere, the crew admitted that they really help him sometimes, specially when the things that Grylls wanted to do something really dangerous, and even then Grylls really nearly kill himself doing stupid stunts that he camera crew didnt approve.

It is a TV show. Anyone can logically imagine that you cannot put a persons life in actual danger on public television. Honestly, all these reality shows are just for entertainment. If people want the real deal then they need to go do the time and train for it. If you enjoy the show, watch it and enjoy it. If you are jealous and miserable then quit your job and prove you are better and film with your own camera, no crew, no assistance - you get the idea. . .

It should be known that not everything you see in a show is just how it is, there must be behind-the-scenes for the shows like this. Anyways, he did a lots of crazy stuff and showed many useful tips. Man vs. Wild was never really about the man trying to survive in the wild show, but *showing* the possible things you could do or try to do if you get in trouble, whether you fall into the cold water, quicksand, (etc.), which can be helpful even if you're not surviving in some random place in the wild, but having trouble in paradise while being in expedition or else. Also the show helps you learn how to make a raft, shelter, hunting weapon, traps or know some tactics in hunting. Survival guides... That's all very real and important, and some of the things is for entertainment. The show contains mixture of serious stuff and entertainment. Bear being in an Uncharted game, just running in the jungle and climbing, and on the other hand, teaching the viewers about survival, showing some valuable things. That's why it's fun to watch it.
