"Do you care what it tastes like?" "Not really" Isn't that usually the attitude of people who LIKE Miller Lite?

Hey, I can afford it, it's been a rough day, and I don't want a hangover. Taste does not come into play.

great video! I definitely noticed the masculinity politics that have come into play with the rise of beard culture and, as a black gay man, I really like that you pointed out how sidelined we are from bear culture and how facial hair reads differently on different races of men. I fall into the category of not being very hairy & having a patchy at best beard area if it grows in so I usually keep it clean.
@BlueRoseFaery7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you'll see this, but I have an idea & a question. I'm a pansexual white woman who has dated a few cis black guys (het, pan, & bi), & none of them could grow great beards or much body hair. As a gay black guy who self admits to not being very hairy, do you think that in itself could contribute to not having many gay POC in the bear community? As someone decently into my local gay community, "bear" does tend to mean big & hairy & generally masculine, though my local gay community is very white majority. Lots of interesting small questions come to mind, too.

My biggest concern about the rising popularity of beards is that it could be a slippery slope back to the world's hairiest decade, the 1970s! On a separate note, I am very pleasantly surprised at how civil the comments are so far. A regular KZfaq channel isn't usually this nice, much less one that could easily be a target for bigoted a-holes.

On the beards being used to enforce masculinity - There is an Australian comedy band called "The Beards" - got songs like "Got me a beard" (It has the best music video.) "You should consider having sex with a bearded man" but unfortunately also have "If your dad doesn't have a beard you got two moms."

Not gonna lie, as is probably obvious from my twinkish anime boy avatar... I'm not fond of beards. Body hair on guys just tends to remind me of my own body hair and that just makes me feel a little dysphoric. But I understand that's really just a personal hang up. Now, body hair on women? Unf.

People of any gender who actually care about the taste of a beer don't drink commercial lites. Corona, bud lite, miller lite, there are good reasons to drink these but a discerning taste in beer is not one of them.

I don't like how something like a beard gets mired in goddamn gender norms and sexuality. God forbid a straight guy doesn't like looking like a beaver. For what little it's worth, I think you look better with less beard.
@amazingtribol59228 жыл бұрын
I agree, i'm straight and think i look horrible with a beard
@mcdoogins9098 жыл бұрын
I really don't understand the "logic" behind that beer commercial.How does caring about what a beer tastes like make you masculine or feminine? I get that it's miller trying to sell their product but they really didn't think this through.People of all sexual orientations/sexes/genders either do or don't care how beer tastes. Some people just drink to get drunk while others care about the taste and actually enjoy it.If anything you could say caring about how a beer tastes would be "hipsterish" because of microbrews.To go further you could insinuate being a hipster would be more feminine then masculine because it is "nonconformist" and therefore less masculine.Ssince we all know being a conformist is highly regarded as masculine as long as you conform "to the right things." Which is totally arbitrary but so are all labels and generalizations.

Quite frankly, for most of the 20th centrury men with facial hair were seen as "perverts" so mostly child molesters. A gay man with a shaven face simply set them apart from that, not from the straights who either had stubble or no facial hair. (and yes, I was there. I can provide you with examples of my experience, but if you disagree, provide me with samples of yours so we can have an actual conversation) P.S. He's right about the difference between white men with beards and non-white men with beards.
@sexyvato8017 жыл бұрын
Typical flamers have done more harm to the gay community than anyone else and also gay masculine men are fucking BOSS when it comes to masculinity.. Like you mentioned the "lumbersexuals" have been a look the gay men have been perfecting for a very long time that straight men are just barely getting into..Also lots of straight men I know really like the idea of "Bear culture" which brings a nice fresh new view of gay men that defies all the negative femme stereotypes plaguing the gay community..

I enjoy the ambiguity of looking like Kurt Cobain. A lagom amount of beard, but I enjoy it more clean-shaven than full-grown, I admit. As a feminist, looking like a stranger danger neckbeard is my least aspiration.
