I've met Chuck three times. He's incredibly kind and has a genuine passion for the work that he does. It's a bit sad that a lot of writing about his work is poking fun at the titles and covers OR trying to figure out his true identity. They can be funny stories, but they deserve so much more earnest engagement than what they're getting! I think the video is a great primer to Chuck, but I'd really encourage people to give some of his stories a try!

I've been writing erotica for years, mainly short stories, and honestly: You just get bored with the normal stuff. Sometimes you just wanna break free from the normal 2 humans having sex and do something fun like, one human having a sex with a bunch of different monsters from the Monster Hunter franchise. It lets you do a lot more crazy shit and that can be a lot of fun to write.

This is the first video of yours I've ever seen, and this is *exactly* the time I needed to see this.

I'd argue that the appeal of monster erotica doesn't exclusively stem from an interest in skewed power dynamic. It can be that, but sometimes, that's not the main focus at all. I think one of the big draw of monsters in an erotic or intimate context is how, in fiction, their role is to be the Other. For marginalized people, eroticizing someone who is clearly deviant from the norm helps us cope with the way our own sexuality/identity is deemed deviant or perverse. The monster is a stand in for ourselves, but made external. It's like some sort of re-appropriation. Like. Take Shape of Water, for a mainstream example. The whole drive of the movie is that precise point. The monster's struggle reflects Elisa's own, as a woman, as a working class person, as a disabled person. She understands the cruelty they inflict upon the Monster because it is the same that she must endure everyday. In this shared vulnerability, there is understanding, there is intimacy. But the monster, being a fantastical creature, is still detached enough from real life to offer escapism. Which is perfect for romance!! So uh. There u go. The monster we wanna fuck is the one we were told was inside of us all along~

That’s apart from individual episodes of other podcasts. There are many live readings of stories on KZfaq as well, not just title reactions. Mark Oshiro has several, and may be of more general interest to this audience. He is gay, writes novels, and has for years written and filmed video of commentary and live readings of media. He’s wonderful. Those videos of his may be helpful in determining if you like the work while not spending money. And then you can buy the asexual Tinglers like I did. Or a different one of interest to you personally.
